will snipe recognize my bid

i have learned one lesson with sniping. some sellers if they do not have any bids on their items on the last day of their auction end their auction early to avoid losing the item at a low price. i now place a starting bid on the item so they can not do this. my question is does my snipe recognize that the current bid on the item i am sniping is mine or will the snipe overide the bid i have in on the item...phil
