Before I heard of AS, I put in a max bid on an item that has a BIN price (another auction same product) of $250.00.

I put a max bid in on the auctioned item of $181.59.

Then I heard of AS, so I put in a higher max through AS.

My question is if no one else bids on the item (it is currently at $1.50and although it is highly unlikely that the bid will stay at $1.50) would AS know that the last bidder was the REAL me, or would my AS account and my max eBay bid fight it out until I have to pay $182.09 when I could have only paid $1.50.

Unlikely, I know, but I am a really curious person.

Thanks in advance!

Remember that bidding through AS is the same if you had similarly added another bid to eBay. To eBay it is all the same. You will pay only one increment above the next-highest hidder. But as R2 has said, if you win the auction, you will be charged by AS for their fee, even if the higher bid was not needed to win. To me it is a small pittance of insurance to pay, to obtain the win. If you do not win, you do not pay any AS fee. Works for me!
Works for me too. I just won an auction: I put the minimum bid on it early because the seller had the wrong title and they can't change auction titles after there's a bid. Then I used AS as insurance by putting in a bid for considerably more. I won at the minimum bid, and will be delighted to pay AS for a week's peace of mind.
