Also, the duplicate bids you are seeing is their proxy bid upping to outbid someone. You CANT up the bid by bidding against yourself to run the price up Smile

There are so much I don't understand yet... how the bidding 'process' works. So from you words, if I using the eBay proxy post a max. of 100$ bid, and the current amount is at 50$, if you then try to bid 75$ you cant, and ebay proxy put my byd at 75$? right? so it records multiple consecutive bids from me?

bye!

Smile no no! my language is italian, I don't understand a word of German, sorry!

For your message about strange bid: the same multiple items seller was offering all his Canon pro photo gear, as he's going to use Nikon for work. At least this is what he said. Roll Eyes

Thats correct, only your name will show on the bidding history as I was never the highest bidder.

If on the other hand, the bid was $50, you had a proxy of $75 with Ebay and then I came in and put a proxy for $75.15...the history would show the $50 bid, your $75 bid and my $75.15 bid...then if you had a snipe of $100, you would snipe and win for $76.15 (I am not really that good at this kind of thing - Jabber and Puppy are much more eloquent).

If you look through the recent posts you will find heaps of information about sniping v's manual bidding. Smile

Stefan... Welcome to the forum.

I also think the bidding is OK.

Note the bidding is in amount order, not date order. Looking at the bids in DATE order may help you to understand better.

paddock's first three bids (all within one minuet) was to try and beat tixure. After 5 hours thinking about it, he decided he may get outbid by tixture, so raised his bid to 176.

Paddock is also a sniper. And may snipe manually. When your bid went to eBay, that put you in the lead, (price 181) so 9 sec later paddock bid 191 in an attempt to beat your bid. If you would have placed your bid earlier, paddock would have had time to bid again and beat you.

Your English is much better than my Italian. Smile... or German,French,Spanish,ect...

Puppy posted before I got mine posted! Well, I'm still posting it! Much of it is a repeat of Puppy's post, so those not really interested can skip it....

Bid analysis! Storytime!

Haven’t done this in a while, so WHY NOT?!

Once upon a time there was a widget offered in a 5-day ebay auction #2977883934 scheduled to end Jan-11-04 13:28:34. While it really little difference for purposes of the review, all auction currency amounts are in GBP. The opening bid was 1.00 GBP. The bid increments for GBP are different than those for the USA$. They can be found under help at www.ebay.co.uk. Auction bid history is as follows (with some ID abbrev.s):

stefan...............196.00..........Jan-11-04 13:28:20
paddock............191.00..........Jan-11-04 13:28:29
paddock............176.00..........Jan-08-04 15:01:19
paddock............131.00..........Jan-08-04 10:11:19
tixure.................120.00..........Jan-07-04 09:46:15
paddock............101.00..........Jan-08-04 10:11:05
paddock..............91.00..........Jan-08-04 10:10:50
dgmott.................50.00..........Jan-08-04 09:52:51
devisu....................1.00..........Jan-07-04 09:16:47

About 4 days before the end of the auction, devisu places the very first bid of 1.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 1 bid placed, the winning bid at 1.00, and devisu as the winning bidder.

About 30 minutes after that bid, tixure places a bid for 120.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 2 bids placed, the winning bid is at 1.20 (one bid increment above devisu’s bid), and tixure is the winning bidder.

On day #3 before the end of the auction, the following bid action happens:

- dgmott places a 50.00 bid. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 3 bids placed, the winning bid at 51.00, and tixure still as the winning bidder.

- about 18 minutes later, paddock places a bid for 91.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 4 bids placed, the winning bid at 93.00, and tixure still as the winning bidder.

- about 15 seconds later, paddock places a bid for 101.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 5 bids placed, the winning bid at 103.00, and tixure still as the winning bidder.

- about 14 seconds later, paddock places a bid for 131.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 6 bids placed, the winning bid at 122.00, and paddock as the new winning bidder.

Maybe paddock thought about it, maybe did some research, maybe was concerned about being outbid – whatever reason – about 5 hours after his last bid and also in spite of holding the current winning bid, paddock places ANOTHER bid for 176.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 7 bids placed, the winning bid still at 122.00, and paddock still as the winning bidder.

After all this bid activity, the bidding pauses until the last minute of the auction!

Then, 14 seconds before the end of the auction, stefan places a bid (via AuctionSnipper) for AT LEAST 196.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 8 bids placed, the winning bid at 181.00, and stefan as the new winning bidder.

It appears that paddock may have been sitting at his computer, and saw he was outbid! Just 5 seconds before the end of the auction, paddock places a bid for 191.00. If you look at the auction screen at this point, it shows 9 bids placed, the winning bid at 196.00, and stefan still as the winning bidder.

And that’s how the auction ends.

As the bidding goes, it is fairly straight forward. The only bid that is even REMOTELY odd, but not really, is paddock’s bid of 176.00 while still holding the current winning bid of 120.00 with 131.00 held in proxy. Paddock just probably got a little nervous, and figured the lower bid would be outbid. I don’t think the bid pattern looks suspicious, or suggests shill bidding.

"...and they lived happily ever after!"...unless they were ANYBODY but stefan! Wink

Puppy,

Your data table is PHENOMONAL! It certain is much more concise than my efforts, and it is (at least to me) just as clear. I was thinking maybe the last 2 column headers maybe should be different? How difficult is it to stack headers?
Like maybe "Winning bid" instead of "price" or "Winning bidder" instead of "winner"? Alternatively or maybe in addition, a brief explanation describing what the last 2 columns are about may be necessary to help out newbies or others who don't spend as much time agonizing over bid histories as we do! Eek Wink Regardless, your efforts are leaps forward ahead of my typing diarrhea-tribes! Roll Eyes

So come clean -- how'd you get the nice pretty columns! Confused
