Why did my 5 second snipe go in 38 seconds before the end of the auction?

I just had auction 260086776628 end and my snipe bid that was supposed to go in 5 seconds before the end of the auction actually went in 38 seconds before the end. Needless to say someone then outbid me! Anyone know what is going on?

What's going on is that you haven't read the FAQs and the forums to see what's going on.

(Basically AS adjusts lead times to ensure that snipes get placed at busy times. Didn't know? Log a support call via the help tab and tell the AS staff).
