I won an item due to Auction Sniper, (thanks !) but HOW ?!! The following is the last few bids:

Bidding End Time: 11:05:47 GMT

Bidder Bid Date and Time Reference No.
me 39:00 16 Jan, 11:05:41 23 Winning bid
2 38.00 16 Jan, 11:05:42 22
me 36.00 16 Jan, 11:05:41 21 Grayed out
2 35.00 16 Jan, 11:05:27 20
me 33.20 16 Jan, 11:05:41 19 Grayed out
2 32.20 16 Jan, 11:05:08 18
2 32.07 16 Jan, 11:05:08 17 Grayed out

How could I win, my winning bid was earlier than Ref No 22

Why is Bidder 2's bid 17 grayed out, but all subsequent ones are in solid black ?

Thanks for any enlightenment !!

Proxy Bidding
The feature of an auction-style listing in which eBay automatically bids on the buyer's behalf, up to the maximum amount they set. Enter the maximum amount you're willing to spend on an item, and eBay will continue to bid incrementally for you until either you're the high bidder or your maximum is reached. This means you don't have to keep coming back to bid every time someone else places a bid.

Ah ! Now I understand. Thank you region2. I didn't appreciate that AS sent my highest bid to Ebay and that after that Ebay's own proxy bidding system came into effect. Hence the posted times. I thought that AS would keep checking Ebay and upping the bid as necessary, until the max bid I had given AS was exhausted.

Thanks again.
One more question !

Do you think the other bidder was using a sniping system as well ?

If so, what can happen when two (or more) systems are squaring off ? i.e. ebay is running two or more last minute entered proxy systems, both where the current bid amount is below either of the bidder's maximums. I guess the end time of the bidding determines the winner ? i.e whoever manages to get in last will be the winner ?
