What kinda newsletter??

I dont think I would bother, most of my repeat buyers just have my *sellers other items* link added to their favorites.

I know >I< personally HATE it when I get added to email newsletters and things from people I buy things off. They might never had anything I want again.

The reason I ask is I am getting ready to
test market a new software product at EBAY and abroad that would allow
Ebayers, powersellers and the like to download & sort their "history log" from paypal and compile a tidy list of all past buyers.

The software will also allow you to even mail to that list instantly from within the program about what ever the topic might be.

I said "newsletter" but here's what I did with my past buyers using this program.

I sent them a short message asking if they wouldn't mind me sharing information with them about a certain product or service that's relevant to their interest, and to opt-out by sending a blank email to an address I provided. I found that most seem to like the idea!

So what I plan to do is search for good services and products namely through affilate programs and so forth that I can send information about and produce extra income in addition to my auctions.

Up until now there has not been an easy way to extract your history log at Paypal...you have to be quite proficent with MICROSOFT EXCEL to do it.

But this 'new' software takes care of what was once a tedious miserable chore!

let me know if this intrests anyone and I'll tell you how to get it

Sorry, again. To me, that's SPAM, and you would make my list of people to never buy from again. I get enough unsolicitated, unwanted email as it is. (especially since it's gone from being a newsletter to a sales pitch)

Are you sure most like the idea? I'm surprised! You know what they say about spam.... don't answer it, no matter what... not even to opt out.

Because I am asking for their permission and providing proof of my transactions with my past customers it is not treated as such.

Also because I identify WHO I am and they see that I am not just some 'shmoe' trying to compete for their attention they are more receptive.

There's a difference between sending an email to someone whom you've NEVER dealt with, and someone whom you have.

I think this approach is very powerful because once you have the respect & trust of your client.

You provide them with a good service (In addition to EBAY) you will have a client for life!

My good friend Dave Vallieres who is the editor of Infoproductlab.com takes this approach. HE has many clients on his list from Ebay that continue to buy from him outside of Ebay. Provided he provides good content for his specific audience.

So all Im saying is: You have a specific audience of people and if you know what they like and they trust you...They appreciate it when you go out of your way for them!

Perhaps I misunderstood. If you meant opt in, that MIGHT be different. My objection would not be quite as strong. but...

Unsolicited unwanted email is still unsolicited and unwanted, even if it is from someone I have purchased from. Especially if it comes every week or month. Just because I buy an item from you, does not mean we know and trust each other. I prefer to do my own search for items I want or services I need.

If you are going to try this, I suggest the 'opt in' approach.

I agree. Additionally, with the way state legislators have been going lately I think you might find yourself in a little hot water by requiring people to 'opt-out'.

Why not, instead, let people sign up for your emails when you send them your confirmation letter? Put a little link for the sign-up at the bottom of the email. Or on your web page.

People who I've sucessfully completed auctions with are the last ones I would want to spam.

I agree with everyone who's suggesting an "opt-in" feature instead of an "opt-out". I used to click the "opt-out" link on all my spam, and couldn't figure out why I seemed to get MORE instead of less...

Hopefully everyone already knows this, but just in case... They set up programs that generate thousands of random-address emails a day. If they happen to stumble upon YOUR address, and you click the "opt-Out" link, they know they've got a live one, which they immediate sell as many times as they can! I really love the ones that say it will take 72-hours for your opt-out request to be "processed". I wonder how many other lists they can put you on in 72 hours?

You may feel like you're offering your customers a wonderful service and giving them every opportunity to turn you down, but keep in mind that there are an awful lot of email-farmers out there that use the "opt-out" link to their advantage... If you REALLY want to provide a quality service to your customers, give them the opportunity to opt-in instead of forcing them to opt-out.
