What went wrong?!

I am totally new (and feeling stupid). But I need to know what went wrong with my snipe last night so the same thing doesn't happen on Sunday.

I was interested in a particular item in which the high bid (one minute before EOA) was $45. I put in my snipe for $65 (roughly, but well above the $45 anyway). After the auction had ended, I found that I didn't win it. I looked at the bids, and my name wasn't even there for a bid. This morning I got a message from AS saying that my bid was too low to snipe on. I don't get it. It was way over the $45 of the top bidder at the end of the auction. There was a reserve price that was not met in the end. Did that impact me? Why was my snipe bid not even showing up in E-bay?

Sorry if this is totally dumb, but I don't understand. Thanks for listening.

You didn't meet the minium price of the reserve listed. If bidding doesn't reach the reserve price, the item doesn't sell. Even if your maximum was higher than the reserve, it's only beats the previous person's maximum bid by the increment which eBay supplies. Personally, I am nota fan of reserves, but it's occasionally going to happen.

I am not a fan of reserve prices either and you are right as to what happened, I'm sure. Reserve prices to me say I want this amount unless you are willing to pay more than I want. That's not an auction to me.

Your max bid was $60.07.

You dont show up in the bid history because there was already a bid of $64 and therefore eBay would not accept your bid of 60.07 since it was for less than the item was currently selling for.

The confirmaiton button next to your losing snipes shows this response from eBay to the snipe we placed on your behalf:

"Problem with bid amount

Your bid of 60.07 is less than the minimum bid. Please go back and bid at least $65.00. (Please type numbers and the decimal point (.) only) "
