Hello everyone, I just joined the forum today Smile
and I'm relatively new to sniping altogether. I just set up my third snipe today but for some reason it didn't work.
First of all with 3 hours to auction close it notified me of my snipe amount being too low. Fair enough, I just put it up higher. The auction closed, I thought I'd won (maybe even lost) but never expected an email informing me my snipe couldn't be placed because ?? I have no idea!
My email told me,
"Click here to see eBay's response to your snipe" with a URL that led nowhere but to an invalid page.
I looked at the auction anyway, and my snipe would've won it easily. Mad
Maybe it's Ebay and its numerous random glitches now and then. I'm Australian and only use the Australian site. There are some grumpy people on Ebay's message boards every now and then.

Sure, I should've/could've placed a manual proxy bid, but that sort of defeats the purpose of using a sniping program, lol!

I apologise if all that makes no sense, I just had to vent my annoyance. Frown

Thanks. Looks like a straight case of being outbid by a proxy to me. Legioturion bid only once, about eight and a half hours before the auction closed. His bid topped your initial bid made on July 20 (assuming you are the other bidder in this two-bidder auction) and your subsequent two bids were not enough to overcome his maximum bid, whatever it was. Did you try to place a third bid? If so, at what point in the auction? If it was with less than two minutes remaining your bid wasn't accepted by AS since the sniping software "locks in" on your snipe parameters about two minutes before the auction ends and you can't make any changes after that. (You could have made a hurry-up manual snipe, of course, had you thought to do so.)

Thanks for checking it out. I hadn't bidded at all. My username there is the star_mystyk. When I first saw the auction it had 3 days to go, and as there was already a high bidder I thought I'd set up a snipe instead of perhaps starting a bidding war and pushing the price up Smile

Frown I'm a card collector and know I possibly won't find these cards again. Seeing as the movie isn't showing in the cinemas anymore, and I certainly don't work there or know anyone who does.
But, I've picked up a couple of handy things while browsing these boards, so hopefully my next snipe won't be a dud Smile

Thanks again for your help!
Here is the error from your snipe confirmation. You can get this yourself by clicking the "Confirmation" button next to your losing snipe.

This auction ended on Jul-25-03at 01:46:18 PDT, and bidding is closed for this item.

That is exactly what eBay replied to us with your snipe. It looks like it was received by eBay late, even though you had a 5 second lead time and it was during the middle of the night.

One thing I noticed is that this is on Friday from 1-3am. eBay for the past 5 years has always taken their systems down at those hours, so you cant get to eBay at all then. Well just 2 weeks ago or so they stopped doing it.

What I'm going to guess is that even though they arent down they are still doing maintenance like they used to, but their systems just run much slower.

That is only a guess. We'll check this next week and see if it happens again.

Yes, that sounds about right. I read in one of the Ebay forums that maintenance is still done, but without closing down most of the site like before.

Well just in case it happens again, I've increased my lead time Smile
Thanks, Sara, for your response. I had thought by that error message that is was just 'unknown' as to why my snipe wasn't placed. Now I know what that means exactly.

Thanks for the help Smile and also for the link. I missed it first time around (assuming it was your sig!).
