Hello,

What happened to the suggestions forum?

It seems to have disappeared?

I have an idea that could made the sniper more effective.

Once problem I have run into is if I do a snipe and my snipe is the exact price as the current highest bid. With that situation with Ebay rules I would lose. Or if my bid is less than a bid increment away from winning.

The solution will be to empower AS to bid one increment higher only if:
- my bid is identical to another bid placed
or
- my bid less than one bid increment
so if my bid is 15.00
the bid increment .50
the current bid 15.25 ...
then AS should bid to 15.50

The condition will be that AS only does this once. The idea is not to get into a bidding war but to *NOT* lose out on an item if it is only a bid increment away (or tied)

what do you think?

thanks

David

David, I am not sure how well you understand eBay's proxy bidding system.

When your bid is, as in your example, $15 and the winning bid is $15.25, that does NOT mean the winner bid $15.25. It means that $15.25 was all he needed to beat your second-highest bid of $15. He may have bid $100 for all you know, but only $15.25 was needed to win. It only looks like he bid just above you because you cannot see his max.

Consequently, the case in which someone beats you by only one increment is extremely rare--so rare as to not justify the type of AS scheme that you propose, I would say.

Also, AS places your bid at the very last second. It has no way of knowing what any other bidder's maximum bid amount is. All it has time to do is place a last-second bid for you. It is not in the business of comparing your bid to anyone else's bid; it simply places your bid for you. The rest is eBay doing its thing. Wink
Hi David

I have to admit on the surface it sounds like a pretty good idea - especially on those aucons where it appears that you have lost by inches, but there have been occasions when a person is bidding on an item that is kinda expensive, and the next bid increment is $50 dollars - not just 50 cents.
In those cases, I would want to place my absolute max bid and would not want to bid a penny higher.

I think that with all auctions, you need to determine for yourself what is the maximum you are willing to pay for the item and make that your final bid.

Having AS bid another increment higher defeats this purpose.

Keep the suggestions coming though, it sparks lively conversation and makes us all think outside the forum! Smile

Billie
