Why did Auction Sniper say the auction ended early with buy it now when there was no buy it now option nor did the auction end early????
My husband is furious with me for insisting we snipe this auction rather than bid direct. He didn't want to trust the software and I insisted that sniping software is reliable. This item is HARD TO FIND and costs WAY MORE than it went for at this auction- (over $100-it went for $26, we put in a snipe for $40+). Our bid should have easily won, yet it was never placed. I checked the auction 19min before the end and it WAS STILL going.
The Ebay item number is # 2006661366 and my Ebay name is Sd_smile (but I'm NOT smiling now).
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This was not the auction to fail me on. You have ruined my domestic bliss!!

jhunley1.... Adam or Steve could give you an explanation of what your A.S. page stated about #2006661366 ending early/Buy It Now......IFAuction Sniper software is the problem, you can be sure they will tell you what happened...and why you received that particular reason...Alert.....the seller has another exact item up now!!!! #2008457279...and it's B.I.N......
Granitz, I am not a technical specialist. I have a decent grasp of sniping and eBay operations but am not connected with the software operations of AS. Adam should be the one to comment about this situation. I did visit the auction site and saw no evidence of a BIN condition, but that could mean only that someone "turned off" the BIN condition by placing a lower bid, in which case there would be no residual evidence that it had been posted as a BIN by the seller.

I saw the lady's earlier bid, which was topped by someone else's appropriate one-bid increment of $1.00. There was no indication of a last-second bid. If it was set up properly on AS it should have gone in. Sometimes eBay is extremely busy and will not accept bids despite repeated submissions. I'm not saying this is what happened in this case but it is a possibility.

Losing a snipe in this fashion is very annoying, but I would hope that domestic tranquillity can be restored. I note that someone has kindly found an identical item on which bids can be placed. Go for it! Smile
Steve....I knew you weren't A.S. tech....but your posts/replies are right on the mark...Hey Adam...how about hiring Steve ???? I for one will be watching for Adam's answer...I wonder about the auction we've been talking about....and if the 90 second lock is still in effect...and when jhunley1 placed the snipe bid....Well, let's wait for Adam to give an answer..... Wink
This is an eBay problem, not an Auction Sniper problem.

About 1 in every few thousand bids will receive a false "Buy It Now" message from eBay. When you take a look at the auction afterwards, you will see no evidence of Buy It Now. The potential for this happening is that same with a manual sniper who places thousands of bids on their own. When we receive a Buy It Now message, we actually rebid for you 3 times to make sure it was accurate, but as we see here -- this doesn't always work.

I appologize that you did not win this auction due to this unfortunate eBay bug. We do all that we can to make sure your bid is placed in time.

Thanks Granitz! I appreciate you checking this out. I bought the B.I.N. item you found and DH will be happy to have it. Domestic bliss lives! I would still like to know what happened though. I have used other sniping software in the past so I'm not a complete dummy and AS obviously had my info sice they sent me the message that the auction ended early. The item # was correct and the link worked so I still don't understand. But hey- I'm happier now than I was a little while ago!
I'm glad it worked out for you, jhunley1. I'd take Adam's word for what happened -- he's the original inventor of AS and he's about as familiar with eBay and its oddities as anyone I know. Tell you what, though -- it'd be nice if you told about a positive experience with AS, assuming you're still with us. I guarantee that there will be more positive than negative. Wink
