ON MY FIRST TRY, I WON AN ITEM..... WHOOPEE!
OK.... back to reality: I set my preferences to allow a 1 (that's ONE) second delay... I know the recommendation is 5, but I wanted to try it at 1. The auction ended (there were no other bidders) at 19:15:43. My bid was placed at 19:15:34.... correct me if I'm wrong, but that's a difference of 9 (that's NINE) seconds.... not ONE. What's up with THAT???

Apparently AS monitors the speed of the Internet and Ebay's servers and adjusts the times to suit. I assume that things were a bit slow so they increased the time to try to ensure success for you. And it worked...

I normally see a 2 or 3 seconds added to my setting of 5 seconds - never missed a snipe yet!
7:15 pm on a Sunday night. That's about as peak as eBays usage gets.

We compensate based on many factors and enter your snipe at a time that should get it there approximately at the 1 second lead time you entered.

However there are zillions of random factors that affect how long it really takes that snipe to get to eBay and for eBay to accept it as a bid. Thus in this case your snipe got there at 9 seconds.
