Was max. bid necessary?

I bid a maximum of $6.00 on item. The info tells me there were 2 bids, the 1st was 3.00 something and the second was 6. Why wasn't my bid raised to the level above the $3.00 bid?

What's the status on the snipe? Also, click on [View Confirmation] - what does that say? Providing the auction number (actual link to the auction would be nice) and lead time might provide some clues.
