Hello everybody.
I've tried sniping and really love the idea (I'm 1 for 2). One basic question. If I place a snipe, say 5 sec before aucion end, and get the high bid. Does ebay's computer have time to beat my bid for someone with a higher limit??
For example. I'm bidding on something that is now listed (current high bid) for $25. The person who placed this, actually bid for up to $40, letting ebay's computer automatically raise the limit as other bids come in. I come in with 5 sec or less with a snipe, willing to go up to $35. Who wins??
If I understand this right, the sniper wins since ebay's computer does not have "time to react". Is this correct??
Here is what ebay describes:
++++++++++++++++
- The system places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position (or to meet the reserve price). The system will bid up to your maximum amount.
- If another bidder has a higher maximum, you'll be outbid. BUT, if no other bidder has a higher maximum, you win the item. And you could pay significantly less than your maximum price!
This means you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed.
+++++++++++++++
If so, how does eBay deal with possible complaints?? In the example above, the person placed a bid before me, and with a higher limit than what I ended up winning the auction for.
Can someone clarify??
THANKS!!!
