tracking # required for insurance?

One ebay seller told me that he insisted on only using shipping methods that had tracking capability, because he didn't trust that shipping insurance would cover a lost item without a tracking number. So my questions are:

1. Does AS insurance require there to be a tracking number?

2. If a tracking number is NOT required, will a lost shipment be covered under AS insurance?

I would check Ebay support and ask them about insurance and tracking numbers or even the Post Office website.
