Been a member for quite a while and would occassionally put in a snipe. Never a problem. Lately, a run of bad luck cost me a bunch of losing snipes. Now AS has all sorts of colo power issues. Could this realy be coincidence, paranoia or good business practice since losing snipes do not earn fees for AS? H-m-m-m...

Too many losing snipes get you booted from AS?
Perhaps you will provide some clarification. Are you suggesting that the recent problems AS has been experiencing is due to their no longer wanting to place non-winning snipes? If that's the case, do you feel this is directed solely towards you, or has become a policy impacting all users?
Back to try to stir up the pot a bit?

Damn I’m good (although it wasn’t all that difficult to predict). I was banking on you being the last groaner standing.

Consider this: AS is back up and has been for a couple of days. All your “fellow complainers” (nothing quite brings out the courage in someone as being a member of a mob) have probably done one of the following: 1) found another sniping service; 2) sticking with AS; 3) monitoring AS to determine whether to do 1 or 2. But, except for a lone straggler (you), most everyone, if not EVERYONE, has gone back to winning goodies on ebay. But not you.

You’ve been on the forum for something like 9 months, left 26 posts, and in ALL of those posts you’ve complained either about AS or me or some other forum member (I gather region2, or is it Chatter, or doesn’t it matter?). The only time, let me emphasize that, THE ONLY TIME you show up is when AS is having some kind of trouble. One (me) would think that with your leaving sooooo many complaints about AS, or the forum, that after 9 months you would have found a service that was more peaceful for you. But then, perhaps you’re happiest when you complaining. If that’s true, then without me, and one or two of the other regulars, there’s a decent chance I’d miss being exposed to your winning personality. Wouldn’t be near as much fun for you if I wasn’t here, would it? No need to thank me – your posts are my reward.

Questions: Do you monitor the forum hoping/wishing there will be a problem? Is that monitoring hourly, or just daily?

Hey, maybe someone will come along and replace you as “last groaner standing” – keep your fingers crossed.

The following is one of your more enlightening posts:

p.s. See you the next time you feel secure enough to take another one of your dumps.
I have missed all the fun!

AS did mess up an auction or two for me, but I have a life outside eBay and didn't even think it worth coming to the forum to check.

Reading this wadge of moaning mins has been unbelievable. What sort of intellect do some of these people have?

Rick, you deserve a medal! I cannot believe your patience in dealing with some of the most stupid people on the planet.

Server reliability issues are all around us in daily life. If a server goes down on our business at work it costs $000 per hour! We can rave and rant as much as we like, but its a fact of life. After five "outages" we did get $2000 compensation last month, but it is only a fraction of what the downtime cost us.

Am looking into alternatives, but how do you really judge reliability? Everybody claims it, but few deliver.

AS have the same problems - if a ten year reliability record goes to pieces in a couple of weeks, obviously they are struggling.

There is a complete lack of understanding here - I put it down to the culture of instant gratification.

Most of the people here got mummy to buy them a sweetie when they stamped their feet. This set their behaviour pattern for life it seems!

As to Kimmothy, words fail me. Not just a sub standard intellect at work here, there seems to have been no intellect to start with. Rick, there is no kudos to be gained when dealing with a moron - just ignore him.

To those who might think that the "Moaning mins" are representative of typical customers, they are not.

To the AS staff who have worked so hard to restore their service under very trying circumstances - thank you.

And miss out on all this fun?

The thing that strikes me as ironic (perhaps there’s a better word) is putting region2 in the same category as me. By all standards, he’s AS biggest critic. But, to his credit (god, I hope he doesn’t see this post), he promotes (politely) the changes he thinks AS should make. AND, he usually provides somewhere between a decent and an excellent chuckle while he’s at it (there will be no living with him now).
Rick, these clowns do not think! They just show a Pavlovian response!

Bid not made, so - go ape!

There is nothing wrong with the theory, or the practice, of the AS system. The problem seems to be, quite simply, in the general method of communication with the customer base whenever there is a problem.

Given an emergency of that magnitude, they moved the whole show over and re-started from scratch in a very short space of time. This demonstrates their technical competence.

What they did not show, was the same responsiveness or ability in dealing with the customer base. I agree, you always get the "nutter" element (sometimes it seems to dominate) but there were a lot of "ordinary" customers also confused by the situation.

There are a lot of suggestions that you, R2, Chatter and a few of the regulars could make to improve the service.

Perhaps if you would, given your perspective of seeing & dealing with so many complainants on here could start a thread off outlining your analysis. Perhaps then, a few proposals for change.

We could then "chip in" and hopefully, mull over, your proposals and then ask the management of AS to consider them. I am certain they would, if they were made in a sensible fashion, for it can only advance the course of their business.

Glad you suggested this, Paul. Here’s my advice: if AS should ever adopt anything that I should advise, then it’s time for AS to move out of the sniping business. Perhaps a little qualification is needed to clear up any ambiguity – if AS should ever READ anything that I should advise, then it’s time for AS to move out of the sniping business (this does make for a certain paradox in that what if they read this and follow this advice?).
