What does he mean when he refers to eBay letting you see the "open and closed bids"?
Confused

I suspect that this response is a canned one, one that was written many moons ago, so the "last month" and "recently" references are actually quite dated. If someone else here e-mails him in six months, he will likely receive the same response. That is why Rick located the negative feedback, which was given long after the canned response was written.

Jab's story about irrational bidders bidding the auction up to $28, while the same item was still available with a BIN at $24.95 simply demonstrates to me the ludicrous nature of some bidders, though in all fairness, many of them are newbies who simply do not understand how eBay bidding works. In any event, that is part of why I still snipe on every auction--you never know what will happen.

Part of the basis for my strong stance, I believe, comes from my desire to acquire certain items. My price is probably higher than many people would be willing to pay, but I revel in adding the widget to my beloved collection, rathering than gloating over the price. Wink

Interesting read R2 Smile but I would love to see what your email to him said, whether you played dumb about sniping or acted anti-sniping.

This guy must be very very passionate, to be bothered to look at the bid history of every auction (admittedly, he doesnt seem to have many auctions with more than 1 bid). Even if I was against snipers winning my auctions, I could never be bothered to go through alllll the bid histories and then email the bidder and ask them if they used sniping software. PULEEZE I think this guy is all froth and no beer I am even tempted to turn my instamail on and bid to see what happens Smile

Guaranteed - a win & a negative FB! Rick pointed out the guy left a neg.FB for a sniper that won one of his auctions (ONLY bidder!?!). The sniper had even left a positive FB for the guy. I only saw ONE neg.FB from the guy re: sniping, though.

I read thru a bunch of the guys FB, left & received, and he really seems like a psycho! Eek Some people left him Neutrals and he fired back with caustic neg.FBs. I'd consider doing the same as you thought, but decided I'd prefer to have nothing to do with the guy.

Kinda like poking a skunk with a stick -- nothing good can come of it! Wink

Mine too! Big Grin

Guy seems a little scary Eek if you ask me! According to some of his FB, he sends delightfully scathing multiple e-mails when the deal goes awry.

He is a bit freaky, I would lurrve to get one of his nasty emails though.

I had a humdinger email arguement with a seller before Xmas because he took offense to a question I asked regarding the authenticity of his clothing label (he had a few negs regarding this), anyway after a few ickie emails I told him he needed to get.. ummm ..'some action" or take a valium, he threatened to have me kicked off ebay, which he could do because they pay ebay $blah blah amount in fees every year. Roll Eyes 1 hour later he emailed me and apologised as the "stress" of the silly season was getting to him and he thought I was one of his competition trying to make trouble.

The thing is, if he does what he did to that other sniper, he'll let you pay for the item, receive the item, leave him positive FB, and then ZING you with a neg.FB just because you use sniper software!?! THEN, he'll send you a nasty e-mail! Roll Eyes

Seems like a lot of trouble just to get a nasty e-mail! Would you like me to send you one, Lexie?! Razz PayPal me 10 bucks and I'll start working on it right away! Wink

Hello. After reviewing the information that you have provided, we have determined that the auctions are in violation of eBay's listing policies. We have therefore taken action and ended the auctions that are inconsistent with eBay's User Agreement.

[Explanation for the above email: User had asked if a seller could run the following Terms of Sale for her auctions: "ANTI-SNIPING NOTICE: I do not tolerate sniping on my auctions. if you have any intention of bidding, please do it early. Any bids placed by new bidders 5 minutes prior to end of auction, will be invalid. This keeps the auctions fair and fun."

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to submit this information to eBay. After reviewing the information that you have provided, we have determined that the auction in question has violated eBay policy. We have therefore taken action and ended the auction.

[Explanation for the above email: englandboy had asked if a seller could run the following Terms of Sale for her auctions: "We reserve the right to refuse any bids that are placed at the last minute,(Vulture bidding) so don't be shy, BID NOW to insure you get this wonderful deal."

Lexie, I have read everything I can find on the subject in Ebay and find no changes in policy. It is considered simply a form of proxy bidding.Ebay's advise is the same as we give here..bid the most you are willing to pay!

Free????...hmmmmm, naaa, not send the email for free!!! I want SOME profit! LMAO!! Big Grin

The email from englandboy is somewhat dated (I won't exaggerated by saying "years" ago). Since charly's auctions haven't been cancelled, and I'm sure a number of people have reported him, it would appear that charly isn't breaking any of ebay's "current" rules. Considering that he 1st came to the attention of this forum on August 2003, I would assume that ebay doesn't have a problem with his anti-sniping policy.

Rick, my gut tells me you're right. The difference between charly and englandboy, is charly does not cancel bids and will honor (term used loosely) a high bid by anyone.

eBay is quite liberal on feedback and why it might be negative. Also, there appear to be no rules determining who may or may not be added to a blocked bidder list. If charly is breaking an eBay policy, which one is it?

Seems you don't have to be mentally stable and polite all the time to be a ‘successful’ seller on eBay.

I am not saying charly is breaking anything, just saying the event with englander has not changed as far as I can see in policies...unless I missed something and someone can find it. Smile And, bottom line..why would you want to snipe Charly's stuff anyway? Roll Eyes Eek (lol. englander is a mattress co....englandboy)
