First, let me say that without being able to watch every bid come to an end, I can now not live without AS. But I just had an issue, not necessarily with AS, but probably moreso with Ebay. I bid on Eagles/Bills tickets, setting my snipe at $150 with a 5 second lead time. The bid ended at 11:26:49 PDT, my bid went in at 11:26:43 (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2187844627&category=16122&rd=1). I lost to someone who bid $152.50 BUT there bid says that it went in at 08:06:36PDT, over 3 hours earlier than mine, by a bidder who had yet to bid. Why did this happen????

Thanks.

Keith, you were simply outbid. The winning bidder made a higher bid than you, three hours earlier. Thus, your $150 snipe raised the auction price from wherever it previously had been to your snipe amount plus one increment of $2.50, which the earlier bidder made. You have no way of knowing how much he bid; only the amount needed to beat your last-second bid was shown.

We strive to get the last second bid in, to avoid bidding wars. But in situations where someone else bid higher, whether it was minutes, hours or even days in advance, he wins. High bid always wins. That is why you want to be sure to bid the absolute max you are willing to pay. Wink
