Sniping foreign eBays' items

Hi,

For the very first time, I've just setup a snipe for an item on eBay France, my country of origin (sorry - <g>Wink and was wondering whether I'd need to add a few more seconds to ensure the bid to be placed.

From what I've read here I understand that AS servers are located a few dozen of miles far from eBay dot com's servers, to make sure there won't be any internet woes while sniping. But what about national eBays ? I assume their servers will be located regionally and not along with eBay US, so is it worth adding a few seconds ?

Item will not end on a Sunday evening at 7PM (Jun-12-03 at 11:42:52 PDT), and I used a 10 secs snipe (I always use between 6 and 12 seconds snipes) but my guess is that there won't be so many snipers at eBay France so I may consider increasing it to say 15/20 secs..

I don't know if anyone else has better information, but given that all eBay's servers show the same information but presented differently (just try deleteing the .fr at the end of the server part of the URL and putting .com or .co.uk instead), my guess is that the servers are actually all the same machines, just using virtual hosting to present the information in different templates. On that basis they're all in the US.

If anyone wanted to check, the terms and conditions (data protection language) will probably make some provision about transfer of personal information to the US. The eBay UK privacy policy says: "Please note that your Information will be stored and processed on our computers in the United States. The laws on holding personal data in the United States may be less stringent than the UK laws but eBay will hold and transmit your Information in a safe, confidential and secure environment. eBay will never sell or rent your personal information to third parties except as described in this Privacy Policy. If you object to your Information being transferred or used in this way please do not register."
