I have been a user of auctionsniper for years. More recently, I have found that snipes are placed earlier even though my lead time has always been 5 seconds. They appear to be placed anytime from 6-15seconds and never 5! In the past, I did think that snipes were accurately placed at around 5 seconds. I am concerned (particularly if they are placed at 15s!) that I may not win auctions, and this happened once. DOes anyone have any experience of this? Does anyone use lead times LESS than 5seconds? DOes doing this sometimes means bids are not placed? Thanks

You might want to read the following topic, and the additional links that it references:

Won’t make all that much difference. AS will still place the snipe at the time that it thinks it needs to. In fact, it seems (and this is just speculation on my part) that those with lower lead times (under 5) get increased the most.

No guarantees, of course, but because AS tends to pad lead times, there’s less likelihood that they won’t get placed. From what I’ve gathered on this forum, AS believes it’s better to have the snipe go in a little early then not at all.
Last week, auction sniper put in a bid at 9:32 when the auction was not over until 10:54. I too have a 5 sec. window. Although I won the auction, I ended up paying a lot more than I would have because I had to go into ebay to escalate my bidding. Essentially, I was bidding against myself because if my auction sniper bid had not been premature, I would have easily won the auction at the price it had originally submitted at the incorrect time.
I set my snipe at 3 seconds, and I really wasn't worried about losing this auction, and AS placed it at 16 seconds. My first month I had everything at 7 seconds and lost one at 3 seconds (another sniper). Yesterday, at 5 seconds placement time, AS bid at 20 seconds.
Why do they list the intervals; is it because they do not want to disappoint (no bid)?
