What is happening to auction sniper today. Is it a public holiday in the United States? I have also suffered the same system failure.
I placed a snipe several days ago for an auction which has just ended and my snipe was not lodged. The status of my snipe is "Did not win". That is not amongst the words listed by auction sniper in their explanation of status.
Because I was so keen on this item, I was watching for the last few minutes and could have easily lodged a bid myself but so confident was I in auction siper that I didn't and I watched it end well under my maximum.
I took this up with auction sniper and have just received a reply warning me of the dangers of 5 seconds or less lead time. They suggested I increase it to between 7 and 12 seconds. Just to show how auction sniper has tried to brush off my complaint, they did not even check to see what my lead time was. Since I joined, my lead time has been 11 seconds..
How can we have confidence in this system. I just hope that none of the people to whom I have recommended auction sniper in the past have had this experience.
VERY UNHAPPY. Gizzie
Personally I have never had a problem with AS not sniping. Recently there were problems withe eBay's changes to bid confirmation - AS had to alter its 'method' to encompass that - during this period snipes weren't placed.
Next problem is Sunday evenings with Auctions that end of the hour/half hour/quarter hour - AS has to increase lead times to ensure placement when server speeds are slow. There is still a risk that the snipe won't get placed.
Still miffed - click on the Help tab and log a support call then let us know what support say! [I must admit that Support hasn't always been that great - be sure to complain if you're not happy!]

Gizzie - it was superbowl sunday yesterday, but that shouldn't cause any problems, I don't think Wink (support case opened, FYI)

My lead time was 15 seconds. I clicked on "confirmation" and didn't get any response, just a blank page with the header at the top.

If you offer a service like this, you need to guarantee accuracy. A failure rate of a few % is not acceptable, especially when compounded by inarticulate error reporting.

I'm not a new user, and I've stuck through auctionsniper's "growing pains". I'm even a software developer myself and am sympathetic to constraints placed on auctionsniper by ebay. But I'll take my $$$ elsewhere unless I get a satisfactory explanation and assurance it won't happen again.

Does "guarantee accuracy" mean "guarantee perfection"?

Obviously not, Rick. But like I said, I've seen a large enough failure rate to make me nervous, over 5% for one reason or another, and that to me is not satifactory for a sniping program that I turn to when I want to win an item.

The long & the short of it is that you can give me reasons why your service does not function the way it should. But at the end of the day if it is not useful, I will move on. There are hundred similar programs to try out.

My particular situation was resolved relatively satisfactorily. Still, they had no recommendation of what I could do to increase win percentage (eg delay time). I'll just go back to bidding by hand for important items and only auctionsnipe when holding my breath Frown
Have you not realised that the majority of people on this forum are customers and not AS employees. It certainly not RICK's "service" as you put it. (He's not even a shareholder!)

If you'd read the forum's previous postings you'd have seen many people's enthusiasm for the AS product. No sniping product can offer 100% reliability as there are so many variables that can affect a snipe.

You're right - if you want 100% reliability then bid yourself but you could still lose if outbid or too late. The unfortunate thing with the manual method is that you'll only have youself to blame...

Most people do not even come to the forums until they have a problem. AS snipes tens of thousands of auctions every day. We are but a handful of its users. If you review just the past week or two, you will also see plenty of gleefully happy users, nothing that amounts to five percent of anything.

It does work--not without an occasional glitch--but it does work well. I have used them for well over three years and 972 succesful auction wins. As you can see, there are other long-time members here, as well. Wink
If someone states "I have never missed a bid with AS", they must not use it that much.

I like the service and place a bid at least 10 times a week. Of course, most of these bids I do not win as the price is usually higher than my maximum bid by the time the auction ends. I won't buy on ebay unless it is a great deal.

Anyway, I get the dreaded "did not win" once in a while. Considering must of my bids are not even placed due to the bid too low...it is a fair amount of time. I can go 6 months without this problem, then it will pop up 2-3 times in the next month (such as the last month or so).

Yes, it is not 100%, but it is definately not 99.9%. This statement needs to be changed!!

"Currently, Auction Sniper successfully places 99.9% of all snipes with 5 second lead times".

I have reread this thread and did not see anyone who claimed to have never missed a bid, or claimed that AS has a success rate of 99.9% percent, so I am not sure to whom the above comments were directed.

I CAN say that AS has only failed me about five times in nearly 1100 auctions over three years. I can also say that I continue to be baffled at how statistics are being "analyzed" by some folks here. I am amazed at someone claiming an AS failure rate of five percent, based solely on a count of a selection of forum posts over the past few days. Such haphazard math ignores the reality that forum members are but a tiny fraction of AS users, and many do not even come here until they have had problems. If I were to perform research in this matter, I would likely be unemployed.

Then we have someone who admits only having problems on the average of every six months or so--an excellent record, I would say, considering that he says he often bids ten times a week--but he then declares the service "fair" because most of his snipes are outbid and never placed, and therefore he does not count those auctions when computing a puported success/failure ratio. His conclusion is, therefore, that there are significant AS lapses. Underbids certainly need to be included--especially if he has set AS to notify him that the bid was too low--because AS is still lining up and performing their function.

I am not saying that there are not periodic problems. What I am saying is that if one sticks with the service, it will prove itself more than worth its weight, in terms of sniping efficiently. I will not claim that the customer service response is great, but then again, neither is it in most places these days. That is one of the hallmarks of our era. Another hallmark is people who enter and begin negative posts right off the bat. That is not to say that their posts are not valid, but pleasant hellos and a few good words, followed by dispassionate, unwhining commentary, go a long way.

I can't find it now, but the 99.9% figure came right of this webpage for AS. Maybe it was now removed.

I also stated that of auctions I actually have bids placed for (bid high enough), it can miss the bid a "fair" amount of the time. Out of about 100 auctions I have won...AS probably missed at least 5. Still great (95%), but not perfect.

So, if you REALLY want an item, bid yourself. Otherwise AS is a great way of getting an item "cheap".

I think AS is great. I use it all the time. If I didn't like it, I would stop. I just think people try to use it for more than it is intended for. It is a great service...but...it can mess up once in a while (or ebay can mess it up).

If you see an item you want and you want to bid without trying to drive up the price, use AS. If you really really want an item, bid yourself.
Also, to add...out of maybe my last 500 snipes (ALL snipes, price to low or whatever), AS has probably missed 10 (guestimate).

Still, not bad. It never comes back and says a snipe was not placed when the price is higher than your bid AND it missed it. It just says the price was higher than yours.

Of course, I have had 3 snipes not placed in the last week....
