Hi Strutty here! New to the board, but not to AS. Best thing since sliced bread, as we say in the UK!

How do the sniper grades work? Are they based on the number of wins you've had, posts made or what?

BTW, recently secured a lovely snipe - £200 worth of speaker cables for £2.70 @ 4s. Seller now wants to know "about this auction swiper thing"!

Keep up the good work AS!

Everything above "Sniper" requires a manual change by Sara (support). I asked Sara not to change mine. Many of the "regulars" agree that anything that "distinguishes" a forum member, other then ID, should be removed (posts #, date, status). I think many would prefer not to have this information available. It appears unique to "infopop".
No, I have not. It really doesn't matter to me how many posts you have made, I am sure. Maybe, I agree with everything removed, but your expert, pro, etc. sniper..I'll explain why. When I first came on, I kinda watched for someone that I thought had been here a while to ask them questions. Hoping, of course, to get well-founded advise.

You usually will. And I think anyone that has "gotten" to "Sniper" status has probably as good of idea of what is going on as does someone with a higher status (you as an example). Of course, there is some history that newer members might not be aware of, but that rarely influences the advice. There's probably 20 to 30 frequently asked questions. Once you know the answers it pretty much just repeating them. Also, most of the answers are already in faq, and "search" is a gold mine.

That's not to say that "senior" members don't provide a contribution. And the responses are not just "canned" messages.

I guess that the status information is a starting point, but that it shouldn't unduly influence anyone. We all make mistakes, and new ideas from new members can always expose us to information that the more "established" members hadn't thought of.

I think the more diversity, the better.

First, let me say that Rick knows a heckuva lot too, and he's better at searching out prior posts in the Forum than I'll ever be. Guess Rick is sort of our Archivist, which is great because AS history is just a gold mine, as he says.

Second, I don't care whether I'm designated as Expert Sniper or whatever. If anyone needs information I'll try to provide it, or defer to others on the Forum if I consider their expertise superior to mine, which is often the case.
