i set the max bid on auctionsniper to £180, the item was sold for £174 and my snipe did not take place!! whats the deal here?

Winning bid was GBP 179. Your snipe didn't meet the next increment, so AS couldn't place it. Of course, can't tell what the max. top bid actually was.

That still wouldn't have gotten your snipe placed. That would have taken 184. Now, if your bid had gone in before the last/high bid, then who knows - you might have won!
Actually it looks like the winner of that auction was a nibbler. So it's likely their max was $180 since they kept upping their bid just enough to try to win.
But you played it perfectly. If that nibbler hadnt been sticking around nibbling like crazy you probably woulda won. That's a pretty good testament to sniping. Had you bid $184 you probably woulda won, and that nibbler probably would have been willing to go higher and sniping woulda got you the win, and save you some money too.

Don't, as in a proxy bidding war, you're more likely to loose if you bid an exact pound. Always bid a bit more and you could win by 1 penny! eg. £181.33quote:Originally posted by boogiedown:
