Sniped to early (nearly) - why ??

Hi - My first post so pls be gentle Smile

I successfully sniped an item over the weekend (7170444867 in case it's relevent) I had a 7 sec lead time but my bid was placed a full 19 seconds before the auction end - this easily could have lead to some one manually out bidding me (luckily it didn't)

So - any one know what happened and how do I make sure the bid time is as close to my selected lead time, not way way too early (better than being too late I know but still a concern)

It ended on the hour on a Sunday (24-Jul-05 20:00:00 BST to be exact) which is a peak time on eBay. Thus AS adjusts the lead time to allow for the network/server speed...

As for a manual sniper getting in after 17 seconds - no chance. A. It's physically impossible and B. network/server speeds dictate that even those with Cray water-cooled mainframe PCs on 4 terrahertz microwave link direct to ebay's 'staff-only' server still cannot get a manual bid in that quickly... Wink

Stick with 8 seconds and you cannot lose (unless someone places a higher bid) so bid your max, ensure it's an odd number of pence, sit back and enjoy...

This is not true, I've manually bid and won auctions with less than 10 seconds to go, once at 2 seconds. Now I do have a water-cooled computer - but only below average bandwidth.

Of course, I could only do this because the person I bid agains didn't put in a max bid, but bid $5 a time to "just" outbid me. And these people are the ones that have led me to this site... (if only I could trust it, but that is for another post of mine...)
