MY MAX BID WON WITHOUT THE SNIPE, WHICH WAS HIGHER JUST IN CASE. BUT IT DID NOT SHOW HIGH BIDDER, IT SHOWED SUCCESSFUL SNIPE AND MY FREE SNIPE WAS USED. AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE.
The status message would 'High Bidder' if you had sniped for the same amount as your previous high bid.
A few others have asked about this. The question usually is:
"I was already the high bidder but your service still bid for me and used up a free snipe! I want it back! What gives?"
We could easily check right before placing your snipe to see if you are the high bidder. And if you are, hold back and do not bid for you. However, this poses more problems than it is worth.
Consider this example: Your snipe is set to go off right with just a few seconds remaining. Auction Sniper checks and sees that you are the high bidder with 5 seconds to go, and cancels your snipe. But the moment after we check, you are quickly outbid by another sniper and they win the auction. Had Auction Sniper sent in your bid, you would have won.
In any other application, this may be the smart thing to do. But sniping is extremely time sensitive -- we're dealing in miliseconds. For that reason, Auction Sniper will always send your maximum bid to eBay.
In the event that we change the way our system works, we will post it here first.
