I have an item on my snipe list and I just looked in "My Ebay" and saw that apparently AS had placed a bid on it. I was surprised since I have a 5 second lead time on it. The item number is 3267058114, and isn't set to end until 1/20 but when I look in my snipes it shows it ended on 1/18. Somewhere you guys are off by 48 hours.

The seller did extend the listing duration. If you go to the auction page and click on "revised" next to the word "Description," it will show you the changes the seller made to the auction. I agree with the above poster that AS should have been smart enough to know that there was more than 5 seconds left to the auction.

...of Sara & the "AS Team" Wink, the AS service can only be as "smart" as it is programmed. When the portion of the AS program that determines WHEN a snipe is to be placed was programmed, the prospect of the seller changing auction length may not have even been an option offered by eBay. Now it is, so AS will need to respond.

AS is in a difficult position as an "accessory" program to eBay. Anytime ebay makes any changes or tweaks (often without warning) to the ebay program, AS needs to respond to make sure the ebay changes do not adversely affect the operation of the AS program. In general, I think they do a great job! Smile

Rick,

I'm not positive so hopefully someone will check-in if I'm incorrect. I think the 2 limiting auction attributes:
1) Any bids on the item, and/or
2) Within the last 12 hours of the auction
...no changes can be made(?), except MAYBE to cancel/end early.

It would also seem to make sense that the seller can only make a shorter length auction to a longer one i.e. make a 3-day auction into a 5, 7, or 9-day auction, or a 5-day to a 7-day, etc. I don't think a 9-day can be lengthened by ANOTHER 9-days, etc.

I agree, it is something the AS service needs to be reprogrammed to check, perhaps during the last 3 minute "Lock up" period before the snipe is scheduled to fire. Let's face it, this is probably a VERY RARE occurance in the grand scheme of things, so the vast majority of snipers will be unaffected by this "bug".

Sellers doing that is quite common over here. Guess they are trying to get a little bit more out of their auction for no extra cost. I have found more and more sellers are starting on a 3 day listing and if they dont get any action early revising to a longer auction time.
I cant ever be bothered and most of the action is in the last 12 hours anyways. I dont even look at my listings anymore, just list them then forget.
Its quite disheartening to see no bids for a whole 4 days sometimes Frown but then you get a lovely surprise at the end of the auction when all the snipers came out to play Big Grin
