Snipe not placed in time

I also had a not in time message for my auction, and I gave it a 12 second lead! If I hadn't relied on auctionsniper and trusted it, I would have set an alarm and entered my bid manually! now I get to wait and see when I can get a concert T-shirt in my size from 2000, like that will be anytime soon.

I am unsure whether this will work for "not in time" as I havent had that problem, but if you go to "My Snipes" and click "Lost", it should bring up the auction you are referring to and it it might have a "confirmation" tab....can you check that please??

If you dont want to share the auction numbers....what was the end time of the auctions?

eBay taking an exceptionally long time to accept bids tonight and I'd recommend adjust all snipes to a 30 second lead time through 8:30pm.

"Not in time" does not mean that we sent it late. It means that we sent it on time, and eBay took too long to accept your bid, and in that time the auction ended.

tonight I also had 2 auctions where the bids did not get placed in time. There was a 5 second lead time which has worked in the past. one item shows ready but the auction has already ended. How could that be? The ending price was $20.50 and my limit was $21.50. The other auction ended at $15.49 and my limit was $16.00. The next increment on eBay was $15.99. I am very disappointed. Up until now I have been very pleased.

I can't find a way to verify the time that auctionsniper placed the bids that registered as too late.

The one item was Vintage 1948 NY Football Giants Program Item number: 2789908543 Ended: Feb-29-04 17:46:17 PST
The other was 1962 NFL Pro Football Hall Of Fame Program Item number: 2789439638 Feb-29-04 17:30:00 PST

Sorry Revmoran, Admiral and odievikiehersey. I know at the moment it doesnt count for much, but AS is VERY reliable. I have been using them since I joined and have only had 1 glitch and thats a very low percentage considering the amount of snipes I have had.

Ebay does have lag time, especially during Prime Time (Sunday nites) and I doubt you would of sniped successfully if you had of done it manually.

AS places at least 4 snipes from different servers to ensure your bids get through, so if none of their 4 got through, I dont think a manual one would of.

I know you probably arent wanting to hear this right now, but AS is a great service and we forum members are always here to chat or try and help answer question

I had two other bids that were placed successfully tonight, and I have also had generally good experience with AS - I'll just increase my lead time in the future

Me too... I'm bummin' cuz it was something I really wanted and thought *fer sher* I would win! I've been using AS for a little while (after getting a few last-minute bumps), never had a problem with the 5-second lead. A question though - I really hesitate to go longer than 10 or 12 seconds.... I know I used to sit there refreshing my browser like mad for a really important auction - don't want to give someone too much time to react! How have your experiences with a longer lead time been? Ever lost because of it? And is it really generally neccessary to go with longer than 5 seconds on Sunday evenings? I've only been ebaying for about 3 months & only been sniping for a few weeks or so... still trying to learn the ropes! Thanks!

Boopy, I would say that any bid that came in after 15 seconds was from another sniper, and would be placed irrespective of yours. That would also mean that the other bidder's max was higher than yours.

Make sure you bid your very max. This way, if you lose, it will be because you were not willing to pay more!

Barbie, normally I would not use 30 seconds. This Sunday, primetime was an exception! I usually use about 8 seconds and during Sunday PM PST, 5 to 8:30 and on the hour, half and quarter I add 10 to 15 seconds.

Something I really want ending 2.30 GMT, I know there was a problem on Sunday 29/2. Does any one know if there is or likely to be problems tonight.

I was under the impression that AS was dynamically increasing the lead time during peak periods by assessing the response times. That was the reason they gave for sniping one of bids too early and allowing someone to counterbid. Somebody please clarify.

Larry, that is true, however there was a big problem on Ebay Sunday, they say that made it much slower. Not sure if it is completely back to normal or not. Maybe Sara could update us.

You are spot on Larry, AS has always adjusted lead times if they find ebay response time is lagging.

I am sure it must be back to normal, I think we would of heard about it many times over if it wasnt.

What happened AS giving snipe credits for bids with 5sec or more not placed because of delays? I believe it used to be 2 or 3 free snipes. While AS disclaims liability for bids not placed in their terms of service there is such thing as implied warranty of merchantability. Since AS is in the business of placing timely bids on eBay I fully expect it happen right every time. As someone else has mentioned AS usually adds more time to the entered lead time. In actuality my AS placed bids are usually 3 to 20 seconds over my lead time of 5 seconds. That has caused me to lose auctions but I never complained presuming that it better to have AS place a bid a 20 seconds early that 1 second late. I do not think its fare for AS to have it both ways.
Anyway I lost auction #3464743857. Now would like to at least get snipe credits for this.

Your wrong!

You lose auctions because:
a) Bid to Low
b) Bid not placed before auction closing.

If AS placed the bid, regardless of when, and you lost, it is your fault for not bidding enough to win.

Do it right! Bid your max, you might win.

dsvcomp - It sounds like you have been using AS for a fair while and I am sure you are aware of that fact that AS adds extra seconds to your snipe when it detects a lag in ebay's response time. I, personally, would prefer AS to place my snipes early and have them get through, rather than placing them at my 5 seconds and getting a *not in time*. I think you will find most of the time you will win, (if you are the highest bidder) even if your bid is placed early.


*I did have a lot more typed in this little response (and it wasnt directed at Sara), but I re-read it and decided to take the advice that was given the other day.
