Duchess is very annoyed! Mad Snipe was not placed at all! When the Status Report email arrived, it said the snipe didn't win because the reserve wasn't met....but the snipe wasn't placed, anyway, and my bid was $100 higher than the highest bid! Mad At the bottom of the email notice was a link to "view the confirmation page", where I found a message entitled "Buyer Requirements" stating:
"This seller has set buyer requirements for this item and only sells to buyers who meet those requirements.
You are unable to bid on or buy this item because:
•You are registered in a country to which the seller doesn't ship."

Of course, I had contacted the seller a week ago, obtaining permission to bid! Roll Eyes
QUESTION - Does AS not place a bid if the auction presents that page with the warning about needing to obtain the seller's permission to bid because one is off-shore?????? If this is the case, how does one work with such a restriction?????

Good questions. Don’t remember this coming up before. It may be that only AS support can answer those questions. If you don’t get a reply soon, you might try filing a support request:

Like to hear what support says if they don’t say it here.
Ummm.....ok, but that wouldn't make sense. If that was eBay's policy, no bids would ever be placed unless they met the reserve, which we know doesn't happen, and if it's AS policy, it would be totally insane, since when reserve isn't met, very often the seller will approach the high bidder with a Second Chance offer to buy at the high bid. If AS didn't place the bid, the AS bidder would miss out on that chance - ergo, the bid MUST be placed!

You are right, Duchess.
Serenity,

From AS' FAQ's:
How do I bid using Auction Sniper on Reserve Auctions?

In a Reserve auction, the seller has placed a minimum bid he’s willing to take for the item. You will know this by the words Reserve met, or Reserve not met next to the current bid amount.

If your snipe meets the reserve, your bid will jump to that reserve. This happens the same way when you bid directly on eBay: we follow all eBay rules in bidding.

If your snipe doesn’t meet the reserve (and you were the last or highest bidder), eBay will only display the next increment over the previous bidder. They will not display your max.

If you want to search the FAQ's for this text, use "Reserve" in the search.
I wish I could copy live chat, but you cannot. I talked to Rebecca first. She gave me the information I posted . I just went back and asked again, hoping they could tell me how to copy it. This time I talked to Jeff S. He said the entire reverse. He said it should always show, no matter and Rebecca was wrong! Yikes! They are even confused!!

Well “someone” sure was confused and didn’t understand what was going on. I’m a little hurt that you would take the word of a total stranger like Rebecca over mine. I’ll go off somewhere and have a well-deserved cry. [SAD FACE]

And, to answer your question, that is exactly what Rebecca said. I even asked her after she answered if this is what she meant!
[Tear – tear.]

I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong.
DUCHESS,
Now that that’s a lot less muddy, and some of the dust has settled, I’m not sure where that leaves your issue (assuming you are still with us). We are now all in agreement that the reserve auction would have no impact on your snipe appearing in the bid history, *had* the snipe been placed.

You’ve had 4 posts out of 21 on this thread, and I’m not sure anything has been cleared up.

No, not exactly. I went back for a tie breaker. Sandra J said it would not show in the history unless it was outbid. 2 to 1! I cannot give anyone the direct link, but go ask for yourself. Three times is good for me!
Serenity,

Don’t you think it’s time that you move away from justifying your comments about reserves and focus on Duckess’ issue? PRETTY PLEASE!

Serenity, I should still have had my bid registered as the highest bidder, surely!

Actually, now that I take the time to consider my AS sniping history, I realise that AS has successfully placed many snipes for me on auctions where the seller had selected the no international sales option, so patently it isn't an issue. Which brings us right back to the fact that AS simply didn't place my bid!
A little research into my past eBay acquisitions has demonstrated that this bid should have been made and I should have been seen as the high bidder, even though reserve wasn't met. In November last, precisely this situation occurred, and the seller then offered the item to me as a Second Chance offer for the amount of my bid. This wouldn't have been possible if AS hadn't placed the (unsuccessful) bid, thus placing me on top of the bidders' list.
Back to the sad fact, folks.....AS DIDN'T PLACE MY BID!!!! Mad
