I'm almost with those other recent users of your service who are very upset with this service. Its one thing to NOT have a back up server when the entire business model depends on timely bids. Why don't you even have the courtesy to INFORM your customers that your site is down????

Don't you know your customer base?

The ONLY time I'd go into your forum is if there's a problem. And the ONLY time I'd know if your server was down was AFTER a bid isn't placed.

If you want to keep your customers from leaving or trying out the competing services, I'd suggest you make some drastic changes to your internal control procedures, esp. those regarding how to inform your customers when your site is down.

I just lost a hugely important auction due to Auction Sniper's no bid and to say I'm upset is an understatement. Would I have spent all week waiting for this auction had I known that AS would screw it up? I was on my computer. I could have bid. I had faith in this service.
No longer will it ever be trusted...or used.
I'm going somewhere else.

I think auctionsniper folks should pay some attention to these suggestions. It would be nice to at least get notification that the site is down. It's not that hard to have an off-site server pinging the main server just to ensure it's up. Even better would be to get notified of the bids that may not get placed.

Like raremilitarybidder says, I don't come on to the message boards unless something goes wrong. (no offense - I just don't have that much to chat about so far as sniping goes)

I'm sympathetic to the team's problems, but the one thing this site is supposed to do is place a snipe. If it's not working, the purpose of using this site is defeated.

If auctionsniper can demonstrate it's taking customer concerns seriously, and the power issue is resolved, I might stick around. But please show us you're serious about making the service better!
I agree with the other comments made.

I too, have been caught out like many others. I wished that had occured on the 'less important' auctions rather than on the rarer items. Not all of us live in the US, where there may be similar items about. For me, many items I bid for are around 3-5am. I've used this system for over 360 bids over the years.

I feel that these glitches were avoidable had there been a back-up system in place. At least AS are now implementing changes to minimize it happening again, though there wasn't any other choice.

My gripe is that after I realised that I had lost auctions to these technical issues, I placed manual bids. I first checked the Auction Sniper site, and confirmed it was still down, via a secondary screen. These wins were solely due to me sitting at the computer at the end of auction time, and yet they are attributed as 'you won'. The lead times make my manual wins easy to spot.

I realy think the customer service situation needs to be focussed on. I am staying on, but am still wondering why those who clearly have missed bids haven't been emailed or compensated with some kind of credits. It wouldn't fix missed items, but it would show some thought to us customers.
Why AS is full of it:

Before I write this, let me say that I'm actually a REAL LIVE PROGRAMMER with over a dozen years in the industry. I specialize in the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment and have to deal with data centers on a daily basis from LA to New York.

1) AS's code was misfiring yesterday morning. It was placing bids, but was not catching the return values from the eBay API. Therefore, it had no ability to return consistent results regarding the outcome of any auction.

2) Fact: I won 4 auctions yesterday. AS had me winning 1. Ebay showed correctly... 4.

3) This "co-location power outage" is simply bullshit. If the power was down, the server or servers powering this site would be down, in which case the ENTIRE site would be off. We would not be typing on this stupid forum with "super dieties".... ooooo

4) Data Centers have this novel little concept called "redundancy". This means if the power from the grid dies, backup power generators kick in. It even applies to California lol!!! If they don't have generators, they aren't disaster proof. And if they aren't disaster proof, what freaking moron put their own servers there.

5) Ask a super diety to explain co-location. This means their box, in a disaster proof datacenter. Now they are going to relocate their box, meaning they are going to pick it up, disconnect it, and carry it over to the next place. But the site is till up

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! If you idiots are with a datacenter with no redundancy, well, you are idiots. If you expect ANYONE to believe your horse shit... well you must be an idiot. And if you don't think that you are going to get slammed across the web?... Well... yep you've got it... you are stupid and you must be an idiot.

The company must be ran by a bunch of Russian or Ukrainian children who run around pointing fingers at everyone else instead of being straight with their customers.

Go Google auction sniper and you'll find a ton of reliable competitors who are just as inexpensive who know how to tell their customers the truth, and who know better than to send some asshole through their own forums playing Dick Head to the people who keep them in business.

You people suck!

Another possibility, and one that I can’t understand as to why someone else hasn’t posted, is to use ebay’s forums. Besides the substantially larger user base, there’s also a much greater chance of receiving unbiased information than one would get from this forum that is currently attended by either upset (soon to be ex) users or (to use AnotherGeek’s description) “assholes”. And, should one be reluctant to start a new thread on ebay, doing a search is bound to provide some assistance.

Hope this helps.

D.H.
I believe there is a general feeling that ebay frowns upon automated auction sniping, and no one would want to compromise their ebay account for AS.

If ebay wasn't adverse, I would think they would have instituted their own version of this software long ago, since it would generate them $. I think they are staying away on a manner of principle.

The fact that the forum didn't go down makes me think it is possibly being hosted by 3rd party company/software. I'm getting the sense that AS isn't buildling up its own infrastructure, and certain short cuts may have lead to the meltdown.

I still haven't heard any convincing explanation of what happened or how it will be prevented in the future. No real apology either.

If they were the victim of one of those bot, overload crimes, it would at least illicit some sympathy from me.

The whole both Co-locations, back up server failing deal makes me think there was none in the first place...
As a long time AS user, I never had any problems with "colo power outages" or other BS explanations until I ran an unlucky bunch of losing snipes. Funny thing tho, I could not use As from broadband but could use from dialup- then I lost dialup too. Could it be that losing snipes are not making money and losing snipers get "blocked" with "technical difficulties"? Hm-m-m... Any body else checked this?

I'm not sure I understand this post. Are you suggesting that the recent problems AS has been experiencing is due to their no longer wanting to place non-winning snipes?
