Is it just me...or does anybody else have a problem with the little lightbulb icons on this forum which supposedly inform you of new messages being posted since your last visit?

I know the key says that the lightbulbs should only be yellow if there are new messages since my last visit but, frankly, it never changes...the lightbulbs are *always* yellow!

Is this because I haven't actually gone into each and every message string? Is there a way to mark them as "all read" or something?

It seems that this could be set up more efficiently so I don't have to go into each board every time to see if I've read the current messages or not.

Comments? Suggestions? Thoughts? Whack me upside the head and tell me what I'm doing wrong?!? Wink

No, but I haven't been able to figure out the logic. I read them all, and it doesn't make any difference.

I think it's like wine - needs to age.

Don't know if this will help, but here's something I learned from chatter163 - on either the Home Page or on each of the forums, you can click on the "Last Post" column and it will take you to the end of that topic. Don't have to scroll threw all the old stuff.

Also, if you are on the Home Page and you see a forum that doesn't have a user listed in the "Last Post", it's because the last person that posted on that topic deleted their post.

Okay, I've tried it all and the lightbulbs are still yellow all the time...I'm wrong, there was *one time* that I logged in and there were two lightbulbs that were white.

It isn't a biggie as the forum size is still manageable, however, if it got significantly larger it would be a real pain in the butt to track. And it is not even like it is a major issue...it is just frustrating not knowing *why* it doesn't work.

Oh well...::shrug:: I'll live! Wink

I keep myself always signed in to AS on my home computer, since no one else uses it, and I find that I have no problems with the messages being properly marked. OTOH, on my work computer, the messages are always listed as new. I also find that I must sign in every time if I wish to respond to a message. From this I deduce that I may only be "permanently" signed on to one location at a time. Frown
Well, today the lightbulbs are working...the white ones had only old postings and the yellow lightbulbs had all the messages that were new to me. I have no idea what I did differently (IF I did anything different at all!) but we'll see what tomorrow brings!

As I said before, this is really not a biggie...right now. If the forum grows considerably, well...then, it could become a real pain.

Some possible solutions:

- Clear out old messages that are no longer relevant and/or past a certain date (down side: requires a lot of personal intervention and maintenance, and/or significant/important postings could be lost)

- Have a button where one could just bring up new postings (down side: could make it difficult to find original thread as not everybody uses quotes)

- Leave it as is (Up side: whiners have something to whine about Wink )

- Best solution? Work out the kinks and make it work the way it should work! lol!

Have a great day, fellow snipers!
