Hi

This is the first time I have heard about this sniper thing so please excuse me if I am asking any silly questions. Well here it goes
1. How much does it cost
2. What happens if someone else has put a snipe on the same item for the same amount etc
3. Can you be banned from ebay for using this.
4. Does it work the same as proxy or does it just go in with highest bis like you would on ebay.

Thanks in advance for your help

1.) It costs 1% of win price with a minimum charge of 25 cents and a maximum of $5.00 You are only charged if you win the auction.

2.) Same as eBay. Highest bid wins, and earliest in case of a tie. AS will place both bids, eBay will determine who wins.

3.) eBay has no rules about when you must bid on an item. (except it must be before the auction ends) If you want to keep it a secret that you're using AS, go to 'Modify Account' on your My Snipes page and make sure Insta-Mail is turned off. That sends a message to the seller that you've won using AS.

4.) AS places your maximum bid. eBay accepts it as a proxy bid, just as if you had signed in and placed the bid yourself.

... and WELCOME to the forum!
Hiya Debs and Welcome Smile

I will answer your questions....

1. How much does it cost

Your first 3 snipes are free!! After that:
Auction won that ended at $25.00 USD or less $0.25 USD
Auction won that ended between $25.01 and $499.99 USD 1% of final price
Auction won that ended at $500.00 or more $5.00

Highly unlikely to happen. But if someone has a snipe of the same amount, set at the same time, the snipe that registers FIRST with ebay will win. The best thing to remember with sniping (and all bidding) is its the HIGHEST bid/snipe that wins, not the last! Also, when you enter a snipe, enter it as an odd amount (ie, $20.57 instead of $20)

Nope. Its totally *legal* by ebay standards, some buyers dont particularly like us (again, very rare), but if you go into your account details and turn off the *Instamail* Feature, no one is ever going to know you arent a manual sniper.

AS (Auction Sniper) submits your bid to ebay at your lead time, then ebay treats it the same as it would a proxy. Ebay will only use the amount of your snipe it needs to keep you in front of the other bidders, if you get outbid, you get outbid. Basically, its the same as if you were sitting at your puter at the last few seconds and submitted the bid yourself. BUT!! You can be off watching TV, mowing the lawns or out partying. AS lets you have a life Smile

My only other tip is make sure you bid the ABSOLUTE MAX you are willing to pay for the item you are sniping, you only get ONE chance.

Good Luck Cool
Mogur,

You may only send a max you are willing to pay. That's how eBay works.

You've been getting beat by 2.50 each time because of the 'Proxy' process at eBay. eBay uses only enough of a bid to get/stay in the lead. You rarely know (with a few exceptions) what the winners max was, only what it took to beat you. $2.50 is the bid increment for items priced between $100 and $249.99

and WELCOME to you as well! Smile
Debs,

Currency... Again, just like eBay. Your bid is always in the currenty of the auction. If the item is listed in pounds, your bid is in pounds. AS does not send the currency, only the numbers.

Payment... After your 3 free snipes, AS will ask you to 'upgrade' your account. You must give them a balance, or a credit card number. If you choose to give them a balance PayPal is accepted. AS is a very secure site so I just use a credit card number. Sometimes it takes a while for AS to accept a PayPal payment. If your balance hits zero, you won't be able to enter more auctions, so upgrade ahead of time. You will NOT lose your free snipes, and you won't miss any auctions waiting for your payment to be accepted.
Mogur and Debs,

Note that you can NOT edit or delete a snipe in the last 2-3 minutes of an auction.

At about 3 minutes AS begins sending bids off to the bidding servers and they are standing in line waiting to go.

You only get one shot, so make it count. If you bid your true maximum max, you'll not be sorry for a loss. The other guy/gal just overpaid.
I seem to recall that the "Mog-ur" only showed up in her "Cave Bear" novel. I remember that the first time that I started to read the book, I guessed that I would not get very far into it as the subject matter seemed kind of droll; three or so hours later the phone rang and scared me, strange noise, evil spirits? What a reality shock.
