Just a coincidence - it happens.

Sounds like you were up against another sniper looking for the same type items you were.
They would not know anything about your bid, they just bid their max and your max was higher.

Had similar concerns after winning my first 2 snipes at my max bid. Seemed odd. But I'm pleased to report that I've just won my third and AS placed my bid at only the increment needed to win. Very pleased! I'm a fan.

What happens is: AS puts in your MAX bid to ebay's computer. E-bay's computer then uses only as much of that max to win the item. (Your max must be at least that one increment above the last bet) It is as if you placed the max with ebay, but: You are not starting a bid war, letting others nibble away at your bid. Also, you can cancel your bet before the end of auction, unlike e bay. Really great if you find a better one of your gizmo.
