It doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong. There have been some complaints about AS placing snipes way too early, in some cases by days. You should file a support request, as the forum has no idea what the current status of this problem is:

It would be helpful to see an example that you could refer to. Otherwise the article was pretty clear.

I increased my lead time to 7 sec.

I did not realize that, although it may seem like an of time on the east coast ; the auctions are really going off at a very busy time on the west coast. That's why the bid was put in early.

That was pretty much the response given to me by the support site you gave me.
