A year or so ago I noticed that a referral that I watched being entered did not cause me to be credited with my three free snipes.

Today, the same thing. I watched a work colleague enter all her details correctly as she registered including my eBAY/AS ID in the referred by box.

She registered OK (turned Instamail off!) and got her three snipes. I got nowt!

I logged a support case and they said "Well, It sometimes happen that they are not added automatically ,in such cases we need to add them manually. It is a bug and it is being worked upon."

So, could this be why, despite having a fairly popular website with a link to AS I have never earned any free snipes by this means?

Perhaps AS could let us know what caused the bug and when it will be fixed?

To set the record straight, AS tell me that I have had 6 referrals that 'worked' during my time with AS (2 or more years!). However, I consider that to be too few considering that I have a website link and a link from my ebay About Me page. Plus the 2 instances detailed above.
AS have their best programmers investigating it so hopefully I'll be able to report back soon!

Hello R2,

We checked out your webpage and everything looks fine. I think that people may not be doing it correctly... or changing the field where we insert your name. At any rate, everything looks good. It is odd that you only have 6 confirmed referals... that seems pretty low.

We have tested this dozens of times, it works 100% for us, on all computers, and this is over months.

I'm not doubting it may not be working for you. Perhaps the user in question visited our site before from another link and that person go the credit. I dont know but we give away a ton of free snipes so it is working.

As for links on webpages and such they just dont produce the kind of results most peopel think they should. Most banner ads get 1 click in 1000-2000 views. Then out of that maybe they get a 1% response rate or purchase. So that's 10000 views for 1 sale on a god day.

We simply read that field, if it's entered correctly the database adds 3 snipes. It's honestly like 5 lines of programming. It costs us roughly $2-3 for a support reply. Thus 1 support case may cost us a few dollars. Why on earth would we try and jip someone out of 3 free snipes. It makes no sense. So that's not the case. So that leaves the programming in question and since this is really just like 5 lines of programminmg that we've seen tested over and over that doesnt seem likely.

As I mentioned - I watched this person registering (not from a link but from the Join Now button) and dictated my ID to her at the appropriate point. I have given the new user's ID in as part of my support call so I guess you could check what happened there by looking at your records.
