Hi, I'm new to all of this but I've looked through pages and pages of topics but now I'm as confused as ever.
Okay firstly, the item I want to bid on is currently at 75$ and has no other bids on it yet. I am willing to set the max bid on 120$, but say the highest the item went up to was 80$, would AS still place the bid with 120$ and would I have to pay 120$ in the end?

I'm kind of confused with the ebay proxy bidding and bidding increments as well. I've read up on all the info on ebay on it, but wouldnt these things only apply if you bidded on ebay with a min bid?

Dead easy - this is what'll happen:

1. You set your snipe to 120.01 so that, if, by chance, someone else bids exactly 120 you'll win by one penny
2. Nothing happens until...
3. AS bids as if it was you at 120.01
4. eBay deals with that bid using its proxy bidding rules so that, if the other bidder's max was 80 then you would appear to have bid at 85 (or 82 - ie whatever the next increment is). If the other bidder's max was actually 100 then it would go up to 105. However, if their max was 130 then you'd lose!!!

Good luck

That damn R2 – he’ll do anything to avoid getting hitched.

What with junior on his way, my father is very anxious that R2 make an honest something out of me.

We’ve decided to name the new addition area2 - after his father. I can see the proud father saying, “Yes A2, some day this will all be yours.”

P.S. For those non-Brit-slang speaking individuals, “up-the-duff” isn’t what it sounds like.
