this could have to do with the network connectivity, the e-bay servers even the sniper servers. It is not a perfect system.
I usually go for 9 seconds as it really doesn't matter in the last 10 seconds as long as you have the highest maximum. have you looked at the auction bid times? was the last bnid a snipe or manually placed. If it was a snipe you wold have lost anyway.
Teracus- There is no way to tell the difference between a 'snipe' and a manually placed bid without asking the bidder. One can place a bid at the last second without the aid of AS.

Nabors- Teracus is right in one aspect. The other bidders bid was higher than yours, so if they had placed it an hour before yours or a second after yours if it had been placed at 5 seconds before, you would have still lost.
Donald- I was thinking more if someone is watching for an outbid. If the AS places the bid in the last 10 seconds by the time e-bay updates etc.. a manual snipe would be very difficult to complete before the end of the auction. However if someone had never bid and was waiting until the last second that would be more the type of snipe you are referring to. Good point tho about being able to tell if it was sniped or not.
