You were out bid by a proxy bidder, I assume.

it just means that your highest bid via AS was still lower than what the successful buyer was bidding via the ebay proxy system.
You probably saw this bidder already sitting there on ebay with a given bid. While your snipe has pushed up his bid, his proxy kept going past your snipe. This other bidder probably was more interested in the item than you were.
Never forget that you won't win by sniping in the last moment if your snipe is not high enough.
