Absolutely. I sometimes set up an AS snipe as a backup to my own manual snipe on eBay. Your AS bid will be just as if you had gone on eBay and entered it personally. If you look at AS as an extension of yourself, capable of doing anything for you that you could do for yourself, you'll find things easier to understand. Good luck!

Just to clarify, If I am still the highest bidder through my proxy (or if you are still the highest bidder via manual snipe), AS would not increase the price to pay? Would that be right?

there are odd times when adding an extra bid could increase your bid amount but these a relatively rare and only occur when (if memory serves me right) another later bidder has bid within one bid increment of your max or maybe the same as your max in these instances your bid would increase by one bid increment which is not a lot a nd not much to pay for peace of mind if you really want an item. Unless you have a first come first served agreement between friends when you would have to indicate some sort of bid to mark your territory I would say that it is not a good idea to place any bid until the snipe as all bids encourage people to bid the price up

As a general rule I agree with alan.c.i.a that no bid should be placed by a sniper prior to the snipe bid. The question was about whether it was possible to snipe an item on which the sniper had already bid "out in the open." My answer addressed that circumstance.
