I think Sara is discreet.
I think someone should monitor the private post. Who knows what goes on there?

The author of a private can delete the private. If that happened to you, it wasn't Sara. It was the author. Spooky when that happens. Also, someone that you've invite into a private can "leave" the topic. Both of these actions, IMHO, are very, very strange.

I didnt think you could delete Private Topics?/ I have looked and looked to get rid of a couple of dead ones and couldnt find a delete.

Why would it not be Sara? She would be able to wouldnt she?

I am just trying to figure this all out Smile Mrs M says her thread has gone, I wonder if she accidently deleted it?

I still cant see what anyone should be monitoring the privates though

Only if you're the author. Maybe you can find one that your the author of, and delete it?

Why would she want to. No vested interest.

You have to ask her.

Drug deals, child kidnapping, who knows.

I don't delete private posts, and I don't remove myself from private topics. I think it's rude (IMHO).

I hope this helps.

[Disclaimer] Not a commentary - just an observation.

What about if she came up in conversation? No vested interest - thats why I cant see why they should be monitored.

In the ole MSN Chat, can see that happening (but PM's were never monitored) - on the AS board? pfff cant see it!! I am sure someone who give a few clues out here before running off to PT...OH ok..LOL I must be the dealer with all the hooter I talk about Razz

I agree, the only ones I was wanting to delete were ones that were never resonded too (and still the views went up) - now thats rude!!

Well, I do both! I usually wait at least a week though, and never meant to be rude!

If a topic dies, why not bury it... and if I'm invited to a conversation, am I obligated to listen forever? If I feel the end has come, I leave a note 'exiting topic' and make my exit.

Morning All !

At the bottom of the private topic is the following: "Delete".

I've always assumed that Sara had the authority to look at private post. Maybe I'm wrong.

Regarding views counts:

1) Everytime they are viewed, even by the same person, the count increases.

2) When you post, you get a confirmation of your post. That confirmation appears to add to the count.

3) Editing a post, you get a confirmation of your post. That confirmation appears to add to the count.

4) When someone posts, the view count for that post is updated.

5) There appears to be a batch job that periodically updates the view counter without requiring a post. You can see that happening in the "News and Updates" forum. Since only Sara posts there, and since some of them have only the original post, you can see what's going on. In fact - look at the first 2 topics in that forum:
#1 - 0 replies; 0 views; 1/28 post date.
#2 - 0 replies; 235 views; 1/24 post date.
Maybe someone has a better explanation for 5)?

All I can tell you is that I was reading it and the entire thread disappeard...not drugs, kidnapping, nothing off color. I also notice the views went WAY up on the post and it was when it was idle as do other private posts. IMO, private is only private if other people keep their nose out. Otherwise, lets not call them private. I think there should not be such a thing if they need to be policed!! FrownIt really does not matter to me. I will not use it again.

There is another possibility with this private topic, other then it was actually deleted. Puppy once caused a topic to "disappear" when he deleted a post on that topic. We were able to find it, and adding a post caused it to log back onto the forum. I also saw something like that happen a couple of days ago. You can always do a "search" and enter your ID or the OP's ID in author. If the topic is still there, you'll see "Private Topics" under "Forum" column. Author search only goes back for 170 or so posts. To bring up 500+, you need to use "Search Words". Remember, you can search for signatures as well.
Well, I keep racking my brain for solutions on this, because Sara doesn't impress me as being the kind that would delete a private post. Don't even know why it's gotten this much press. I've seen her leave many posts that were very negative about her, so I'd rather give her the benefit of the doubt. Remember, no one knows if Sara can even look at private posts, let alone delete them. I keep looking for a Polly-Anna answer.

My 2nd-to-the-last (unless I can think of something else) shot; someone "accidentally" deleted the post?

My last shot; someone else on AS' staff that isn't familiar with the forum deleted the post.

Does it really matter to anyone?
Did I say anything about Sara?..I guess if it doesn't matter to you, skip this thread. Smile Roll Eyes More than the whole thread being deleted, I am personally curious as to why the view # flys up without being viewed. I guess I want to know what the view is exactly for, other than when a person posts and the post is looked at by the other person involved. I will say that somehow I deleted the entire thread...half my question is now answered.

Whose private topic DO you want to delete, Lexie?!? Eek

RE: Deleting a pt. At the bottom of the screen on the private topic page, right above the rating box, there is a selection tool bar with several buttons. One of the buttons is "Delete". I think that is the button to delete the topic.

Another way that I think works, I stumbled into by accident. I think if you post a note to the topic, and then go thru the procedure to delete the note TWICE -- the first time thru deletes last note, 2nd time thru makes topic disappear!

I keep on learning. So many possibilities when you look for them.

Moral - keep looking for possibilities - don't assume the worst like others do when their snipes aren't placed or are placed too early.

Hmmmm?
