Please Explain Reason Snipe Could Not Be Placed

You got the double whammy. Sunday evening (prime time) and an auction that ended on the exact hour. Use the search at the top of this page to poke around other posts on this same issue. Sunday PM requires 15 to 30 seconds. Exact hour requires the same. Sorry. You're not the first. But that's why this forum is here. We discuss many problems. Like this one, many of them are outside of AS' control.

P.S. Your snipe was $35 over the high bid, but that doesn't mean you would have won it. The high bidder's proxy bid could have been over that. With any kind of luck, you'll buy the item for less in the next auction. If I have some how insulted you, it was not my intent.

I had the same problem today. Ebay item #2173679819. The auctiobn ended on the hour. I now read in the forum that a lead time of 15 seconds may be required. My snipe was not placed. This is the first time AS has failed me. If my bid was the highest I won. On this occasion my snipe was 50% above the winning bid. Would it not be possible for the software to recognise these overload times and automatically compensate? The only other time I was beaten was after the Snipe (5 seond lead) was placed and the winner bid 1 (yes ONE! ) second from the end.

We do, and it still isnt enough. And how far in advance is too far? We get almost as many complaints from people right here in this exact forum complaining that we bid 20-30 seconds before such auctions ended.

As I've said many times here it's a lose/lose situation for us. Snipe too early and people arent happy, snipe too late and the snipe doesnt make it, and people arent happy. We do our very best to not bid too early, but not so late as to miss a snipe. Most of the time we succeed. We are doing a ton of snipes like these, most work out. We're constantly trying to make improvements in this area, and I'm sure eBay will sooner or later notice the lower # of bids at these times also and do something on that end too.

In any event we always offer free snipes for any snipe we miss reguardless of whether it was our fault. Here is the url:
