Hi! I am new to AS. I lost the first few items I bid on because my bid was too low. I figured, "what the heck, I'll set my bid really high, that way I'll be sure to win." Well, I ended up winning what I wanted to but the amount was a lot higher than I'd planned. What I want to know is: if you have your AS set to snipe at 5 seconds prior to the close of an auction, does AS go in and bid at a slightly higher increment than the last bid or does it use up all the money that I put for my highest bid? I hope this makes sense. I want to figure out the best strategy for using AS. Thanks!

It puts in your highest bid.

Then eBay controls things from there to only bid just enough for you to win.

Put in your reasonable highest bid that you would be happy to pay, but would prefer to pay less. On average you should win for less than your max most of the time.

The problem with putting in a really really high bid just be sure you win is that if someone else did the same then one of you two is going to be paying a really really high price. Smile

i.e. item is worth $30 but you want it bad. Everyone knows it's only worth $30 so you put in a bid for $60 knowing that will be more than enough to win. Some other person does the same and but maybe they max out at $55. You'd end up paying $56. That's $1 which is the next bid increment eBay allows about $55.

So bid your max, but dont go overboard unless you really really want it.

Thank you
