Greetings,

While browsing eBay help pages, I came across an interresting "Message from Western Union®":

I wish such a message were published onto the mentionned www.auctionpayment.com website, and eventually advertised by eBay on their own site. As it is presented here, it looks to me like a way for eBay to push Paypal forward, rather than a safety tip.

Or is there a point I miss there ?

me either, I hate paypal myself and goto www.paypalwarning.com and see how many people have had trouble with this crappy service. I hate how ebay pushes paypal like they dont make enough money from the 12 billion items they've gotten money for selling. greedy - - - - (insert favorite word here)
I have 3 customers at least that i can think of right now who have had big problems with paypal not to mention me myself having problems with them sending my money to the wrong account just to give an example. I am so disgusted with them i will ONLY send people money orders now.
It IS a way to push PayPal. Wink That message is in response to the statement:
quote:
Please Note: eBay strongly discourages you from paying for your item with instant cash transfer services such as Western Union or MoneyGram. Money transfer services offer no buyer protection and are not designed to be a payment vehicle when doing business with a stranger.
I'm surprised eBay gave Western Union a chance to respond and even mention auctionpayment.com!!

I just wish PayPal didn't nag me to do a cash transfer from my checking account on every payment I make.

No, don't use my checking account, use a credit card...
Yes I'm sure...

OK so we had the same understanding. Eek

I wish eBay and Paypal take care of their consumers as much as Western Union. I'm asthonished eBay uses such a way to 'advertize' Paypal payment system. Oddily enough, I just paid for an auction using WU Bidpay tonight, and I can't read a single line similar to the ones quoted above, on WU'side. Obviously their Terms and Conditions are clearly strictly limited to the money transaction itself and not the auction. But the eBay standard protection and the Paypal buyer protection have their own limits too, which raise hard constraints when buying from abroad.

I really cannot say I have had any major problems using Paypal. To the contrary, Paypal has made me money and I would find it hard to sucessfully run my auctions without it. Western Union, while it certainly has it's good side, also has been a means of fraud from mostly, but not limited to, Asian countries to the US. This happens not only on Ebay, but even when I place an ad in the local news website!
I'm a big fan of ebay and Paypal. I've only had a few problems with these services, and I have always gotten a timely, and respectful, response from their customer support. Considering the volume of transactions and the number of buyers and sellers, I'm surprised that ebay and Paypal work as well as they do.
