I went through the normal Ebay/Paypal payment process for multiple sellers today and all of the sellers were paid twice! There were 2 withdrawals from my bank account for each seller and item.

Luckily, one of the sellers was honest and warned me about it. I have a support message in to PayPal to see if they can cancel the 2nd payments.

Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Now I'm wondering how many times this has happened to me in the past without my noticing.

Here’s the email I got:

If you used a Visa credit card or Visa debit card to make a PayPal transaction between July 19-21, 2002, your card may have received a duplicate charge from our credit card processor. Our processor has identified these transactions and corrected the problem within the last 24 hours by reversing the duplicate charge to your credit card or debit card account. This duplicate charge and reversal will appear on your next credit card or debit card account statement, and can be confirmed by your credit card or debit card issuer prior to the arrival of your next statement.

You don’t reconcile your statements? Everything is susceptible to error.
PayPal's reply is below. I think they are putting a lot on me considering I just followed the MyEbay/MyWins payment buttons through PayPal (and just once!).

It's a bug in their system...there are several double-payments all made at the same timestamp shown on my PayPal account. Each double-payment has details showing they have paid for the same item ID.

So far I have received 3 refunds out of 5. But now I have to wait 30 days to get my money back.

E-mail from PayPal:

Thank you for contacting PayPal with your concerns.

Duplicate transactions are the result of more than one payment being
initiated from your PayPal Account. You can verify that a duplicate
payment was sent by reviewing your History Log. Simply log in to your
account and click the 'History' tab.

In most cases, contacting the recipient and making arrangements with
them to send the funds back to you through PayPal or another method can
easily resolve duplicate transactions.

When requesting the recipient to refund the payment to you using PayPal,
we suggest they use our Refund Link, which allows them to refund the
payment within the first 60 days of receiving it. Utilizing this link
returns the full amount of the payment back to your account or credit
card, depending upon which funding source was used for the original
transaction; and the fees will not be assessed to either side. Credits
posting to your credit card may take up to 30 days to process, depending
upon your credit card issuer.

PayPal is a user-initiated system and funds are sent, as requested, by
the originator of the payment. The conditions for the return of
duplicated funds are best worked out between the sender and recipient.

Thank you for being part of the PayPal community.

Sincerely,
