I have found that PayPal really speeds things up. Since I tend to pay almost immediately when the seller accepts PayPal, I have found that most sellers appreciate the quick payment and ship ASAP.

There were some horror stories in the past, and there is even a website where people share these horror stories, especially those regarding difficulty receiving a timely response to e-mails. I did experience a little of that a year or so ago, but have found that eBay's acquisition of PayPal has helped things, even though the two operations are still separate. Also, using the 800 number and speaking with a real PayPal employee was also better than waiting several days for an e-mail reply. They have always been polite and helpful on the phone.

So, I would use PayPal before I would send a check or money order! Cool
ford, I agree with everything Chatter said. I'll add, that unless the auction is for something I really want, I won't bid unless the seller takes Paypal. Such a hassle sending a money order or waiting 10 days for check to clear. I've never had a problem with Paypal. Some sellers don't want to pay the Paypal fees, but if you have the money paid from you checking account instead of a credit card, I don't think Paypal charges anything, or if they do, it's not much.
Actually, they'll hit you anyway if you have a premier or business account...$0.35 + 2.9% of the transaction. Nothing if it's a personal account. I use it all the time and get payments from a couple of places monthly and they don't charge a fee since it's not from an auction or sale. Never had a problem with them in the two years I've been signed up.

I like BidPay. It's way easier for people to set up than PayPal. It's just as fast as PayPal and I like getting Western Union money orders as opposed to having the funds applied to my credit card.

There is also HyperWallet which allows people to pay out of their bank accounts directly.
In answer to fordfalcons concerns about PayPal...I've used them about two years now, both to receive funds and to pay, no problems.

One thing that a lot of people don't know is that to be protected from a chargeback a seller must ship within seven days with tracking.
That is a big plus for buyers. Although some sellers don't follow this rule, most do so you get your stuff pretty quickly.
