OK, I'm a noob. Let's just get that one out of the way.
I have an item that I NEED to win, there is only one and there may not be another at the price this numpty is selling for.
Can you guy's/girls give me a kinda check list or advice on how to give me the best chance of winning it using AS.
Or should I go manual? I have a T1 connection.
I am absolutely sure of my MAX bid (all that I have!), it's just the snipe bit.

I have just signed up to AS, and have my three freebies. Never used it before.

Big thanks.

Well, I would snipe it because that's what I do to win. Just remember to snipe your max. If you are timid about it and want to put in a manual backup bid, do it at the last possible minute. If you win, it will still cost you one of your free snipes. You don't say when or what time it is ending, but if it is on Sunday pst, between 5:30 and 8:30, on an hour, half, or quarter, I change my normal 8 sec. and add 10 to 15 to it. That is just my personal preference.

Ohh a Noob, Noob!!!

Ok...couple of things >I< would do.

* Make your MAX bid (which you alredy know) an odd amount eg $20.57 instead of $20.

* Check your auction end time...does it end on even quarter, half or hour? If so you need to use a different lead time. I use the default 5 seconds for standard end times, but you will need to add 15 odd seconds if it ends on one of those slow response times mentioned.

* Have a manual bid ready to go if you can...for the same amount as the snipe. You WILL get charged for the snipe if you win, BUT its peace of mind in case of a hiccup.

That last one may get some mixed reactions, but it sounds like this auction is a very important one for you and I would be making doubly sure my bid got through.

Good Luck!!! I will have my fingers and legs crossed for you . HEY!! I will even cross my eyes for you if that helps Big Grin

One more suggestion, based on some recent forum topics -- Make SURE that AS isn't going to have any trouble logging in to your ebay account BEFORE the snipe is due.

If you set up your snipe by just typing the auction number in manually, instead of importing it, AS never had to verify your user name and password, and if you've entered them wrong you might not find out until AS tries to place your snipe and discovers it can't log in for you...

Also, if someone has been trying to hack in to your ebay account, or trying to access it with an older password, ebay may set up a second-level security question that you'll have to answer before it will let you log in. But AS won't know that, and won't be able to log in.

To check this, first make sure you've got some items in your eBay "Watch List". Then go to My Snipes and click the "Import Wizard". If AS can log in to your account, the AS Import Wizard will show you the items in your eBay Watch list. So you're set. You can either use this screen to continue importing the items you want to snipe, or cancel it and rest easy...

If for some reason you CAN'T import, then check two ways. First, go to MySnipes, click Modify Account, and reenter your ebay user name and
ebay password. I don't know if these are case sensitive, but enter them EXACTLy as you enter them at eBay. Then log in to ebay as you normally would, and make sure ebay isn't asking for any extra info.
