Do tell! What DOES an ostrich burger taste like??? I'd be inclined to try it given the opportunity, provided the cost was halfway reasonable (if it costs much more than steak, I'll just have the steak, please! Wink)

Very similar to beef, Jabber, without what I call the "snotty bits" (Mikeism for fat). Really deep red meat. Not seen it smoked, but that sounds quite delectable!

As a complete heathen, I always think the best thing to do with steak is to mince it, then make a nice kofta or some proper burgers (not McD****s) from it.

Being very much a small farm area and all that means in terms of economics, they have always always been quite innovative. Ostriches, Llamas etc. However, all that seems to be on the wane now - narry a local Ostrich or Ostrich burger in sight! Obviously not the success they had hoped for.

They are on the wane here as well, Paul.

On another, but distinctly related tack, whenever you go into a restaurant or pub these days I find I am offered a huge range of exotic fish I have never heard of!

Hull is much maligned. I have never been a lover of the town, but it is so easy to get into the countryside (I finally moved to Cottingham) and Hornsea was our favourite evening destination.

And there is always Skirlington Sunday market/car boot!

As a West Country man, you will then like to follow a story from the West Country that, so far, hasn't got an ending! (unless you know the policeman of course or can recognise the village) I posted it first in Amateur Photographers Forum, but the Devon and Cornwall Police are now investigating! (needless to say Im not the athletic student beside the Penny Farthing, though the 1932 Daimler was mine!)

Paul

Interesting - Daimler hailed from Wolverhampton (JW) then. I had the 1934 Lanchester version, with Mulliner body.
Some day I will make a list of the camera stuff I need to dispose of and PM you.......

Ah, what the hell. Jabber, here are a couple of teasers from the deleted text:

Good stuff. I guess Bill didn’t agree. Would be humorous if Bill edited out those quotes in this post.

P.S. In the above posts about llamas - are you guys eating them, or just collecting their wool?
quote:
Were they directed to anyone specific or just to everyone on the board in general?
I’ll let you decide. Here are the results based on number of paragraphs each individual/group got (in sequence of occurrence):

General = 5
Mike = 4
Camera = 4
Americans = 4
Uncertains (but leaning towards Camera) = 7

Based on the sequence and format of the paragraphs, it’s very possible that cat"n"thahat thought Camera was a Yank. Adding the “Uncertains” to Camera’s count would give him 15 of the 24 paragraphs.

quote:
Did we ever find out what country they were from?

No, but based on their comments about Americans, I would tend to believe that the States can be omitted as a possibility. Don’t mind us Yanks getting beat up, as most of the points cat made were accurate, although dated - it just seems unfair that it was the result of comments made by a Brit.

Hopefully cat will come back and correct any errors I’ve made.

What?!? 24 paragraphs?!?! Eek Awww, man! Sounds like I missed a great tirade! Frown Think we can get Bill to repost the thing, sorta like a community service effort? -- "Please do not make posts like the following -- they will not be tolerated:"? Maybe you could repost in private topics? -- Purely as an "example" of what NOT to post, of course? Wink
I had him down as based in the USA but of uncertain origin.

English was not his native language, you could tell that. However original nationality was a difficult one. Any thoughts Mike? (that is if you haven't put the candles out in your cave!)

Aside. Were the Neandertharlers of more limited intelligence than Homo Sapiens? I just thought they were smaller and thus got "beat up" more in the hunt for food.

Actually I bet you any money you like that if Mike looks back on all the colourful insults hurled at him during his life, this was a first! Am I right?

Reverting to an early topic and a point made by Rick. Are llamas edible? Do Peruvians cook them?

Paul

Not sure, Paul. Thought it was either a complete wind-up or one of those random text generators that spammers put in subject lines.
Just rubbed two boy scouts together to turn on the central heating in the cave...

Probably more intelligent - they did not start wars!

I am sure it was, if I ever figure out (a) what he was actually saying and (b) why he was trying to insult me at all!
Textual Dysentery was quite good, though - I'll save that one. A bit like verbal diarrhoea. The misplaced capitals do sometimes get stuck, though. Big Grin

At a guess, they are - AFAIK most mammals are edible - it is just not the done thing to eat some of them.

One last quote, and I think I’ll do a cat R.I.P.

Can’t figure out why Bill deleted the text in those two posts. There was no inappropriate language (of course, I have a very liberal definition for “inappropriate”), no links, and no mention of competitive services.

Bill probably started to yawn........
I am afraid I'm posting rather late for Cat_n_that_hat, but I drove past Mike's place yesterday morning and thought it worth a photograph.

Mike & the kids wern't up of course!

As its a bit in the bushes so to speak - had to use the camera on extreme telephoto, so it came out a bit "misty"

I bet none of you can say Eglwswrw!
