outbids w/cell phone notification

Another newbie question. I have been sniping with AS within the last 5 seconds and using cell phone notification. If someone outbids me before the last 5 seconds am I still notified?
In other words, does AS "watch items" and when a bid is placed then notify me that I have been outbid even though my bid has not actually been placed with eBay yet?
