How about an Auction #

Its a little hard to tell whats going on without the auction number.

Why do you think they are outbidding themself?

rolonda isn't the top bidder and is bidding against someone else's proxy bid?

Wow that was quick responce! The aution number is 3261309808. What makes me suspisious is this, the last person to bid befor rolanda was on the 17th. Rolonda did 11 bids on the 18th with no one bidding against her. Unless ebay changed the way bids apear...if the bid she (i'm assuming rolonda is a she) put in was over $35 the bid would jump to just past the last persons highest bid. But it would only show one bid not 10. This makes me believe that rolonda kept outbiding herself. I can't think of a good reason to out bid oneself unless you have lots of money and want to greatly bless the seller. I'm I way off track or musunderstanding how to read the bid history? Theres only 2 hours left in the aution...so I guess maybe the true answer lies when the aution is over and the bids are shown. Thanks for your help. Trying to learn to be a wise bidder lol.

rolanda placed 10 bids against savageattack's proxy bid. Proxy bids are a function of ebay's bidding system.

rolanda is what is called a nibbler.

Actually I do not think it is possible to outbid yourself. If you bid five dollars and then bid five dollars and fifty cents, and then six dollars and fifty cents, unless someone else bids, it would be placed in proxy.

This is one of the most common questions that we receive. Here is the answer straight from eBay:

"In most cases you, as a bidder, cannot bid against yourself. However, there are a few exceptions where this can occur, and I have listed these incidents for you below.

Let's say you are tied with another bidder and you hold the official high bid because you placed that bid amount first. If you place another bid, you will lost your favored "early bird" status. As a result of putting in another bid (causing you to become a later bidder), the system will increase your bid to one bid increment more than the previous bid just so that you can keep the position of high bidder.

Another instance where it would appear that you are bidding against yourself would be if your current high bid is between bid increments. If you were to place another bid, your bid will increase to the next round bid increment.

The high bid will always try to be a full bid increment over the next highest bid. If you are currently less than one bid increment over the next highest bid, then raising your maximum bid will increase the current high bid to a full bid increment above the next highest bid.

Also, in a reserve auction, if you are the current high bidder and the reserve still has not been met, your bid may be raised if you place another bid that meets the reserve amount. On reserve auctions, if your maximum proxy bid meets or exceeds the reserve amount set by the seller, the system will place a bid so that the reserve is met. This allows for an auction to be ended successfully."

Here is a summary of what happened in the auction.

On the 17th, when Savage came along, Raw held the winning bid at $3.50 ($5 bid held as proxy). Savage place a $35 bid. After that, Savage held the winning bid at $5.50 with the $35 bid held as proxy.

When Yolanda arrived on the scene on the 18th, she began bidding against Savage. After each bid she placed, Savage always ended up holding the winning bid at 1 bid increment above Yolanda's bid UNTIL Yolanda's LAST bid which finally exceeded Savage's $35 bid which was placed the day before on the 17th.

Thankyou so much for your help. After bidding on ebay for almost 3 years now...you would think I would have ran into something like this before. Well, I must say...I learned something new today. Before I switched to AS I would always put in my bid at the highest amount I was willing to pay for it. If it went over that amount....I didn't up my bid. I just moved on. Then I quickly learned to do this a few seconds before the auction ended until I found AS. I had never even thought of "baiting' or knew what it was until you explained it to me. I'm having one of those "Duhhh..you should have known that or figured it out" moments. lol.
