This may sound like a silly question but here goes....

If I bid on an item (mainly to determine if a current bidder has a higher bid on file) and I become the high bidder but have auction sniper on as well (at a higher bid just to be safe from last minute bidders) will auction sniper outbid my high bid?

Example...I bid $10..i am high bid. Auction sniper set at $12. Will auction sniper outbid my bid of $10.

Hope that make sense.

This has nothing to do with Auction Sniper; it is an eBay issue. In most cases, it is impossible to bid against yourself. AS only submits your bid to eBay; they handle the rest.

In your example, you would win the auction for $10. The other $2 would simply be your unused proxy bid, since there were no other bidders higher than $10. It is just like you had bid the $12 directly on eBay.

I am not sure what you mean by bidding to see if the current high bidder has a higher bid on file. Simply decide what your absolute maximum amount is and bid that through AS. This way your bid will go in at the last second and either you will win the auction as the highest bidder (giving others no real chance to respond), or you will not win because someone else bid higher. IMHO, it should not really matter what the other bidder's high bid is; simply decide on yours and let that bid work for you. If it is high enough, you will win; if not, then the item went for more than you were willing to spend, anyway.

It is, among other things, the indecisiveness of nibblers that we snipers seek to avoid. To me, that involves deciding a max, setting it, then walking away from it. Wink
Hi,
If your current winning bid is less than a full bidding increment above the second bidder, the snipe will raise your bid. For example:
A is winning at $50.50
B is second bidder at $50.00

If A then makes a higher snipe bid the current price will rise to $51.00.

Sniping purists believe that the snipe should be the only bid, i.e. "Bid once, bid high, bid late." However, many bidders, including myself, don't feel comfortable with that style. If you want to mix early bids with snipes, feel free. Smile

It is true that AS will still charge you. But considering that it would only be 25 cents, to me that is worth the extra likelihood of winning. I would not refrain from using AS just to save a few pennies, when I can dramatically increase my chances of winning.
AS will outbid you if you use another buying account to set your bids to fool competition.. but if you use the same email address to bid normally and with AS than AS should not outbid you.

I say SHOULD not because sometimes eBay screws up and if your previous bid had less than a full increment above the second bidders amount it occasionally will increase it so it does. That seems to be a rarer occurance now tho..
