Just joined austion sniper and was wondering what happens if I snipe on an item that has not yet been bid on, will the snipe be reserved for the closing seconds of the auction, or will the snipe automatically bid, I wonder if I am better off bidding myself and saving the snipe for an auction on which bidding has commenced. Any suggestions ?.

Snipes are placed “close” to the amount of lead time you specify – regardless of how many other bids there all.

Just because there are no bids now, doesn’t mean that some sniper, or several, will take a shot at the auction. Also, a proxy bid is asking for trouble. First, it’s more prone to nibbling. Second, it draws interest to the auction. People are more reluctant to bid on something that “no one else wants”, and less when there are. The 3 free snipes are about giving AS a test drive. If it’s an inexpensive item, then using the free snipe won’t save as much fee money as on something expensive, but AS’ fee is so small, I don’t think that’s much of a consideration.

nice one, I think I might be best waiting and see if anyone else bids first then, rather than have the price pushed up by any other bidders

Not exactly sure what you mean by that, but you should place your snipe for the max you want to pay. Then, sit back and wait. It does not show until it is placed at the last possible moment and then, only an amount of it is used to bid over the highest bidder, if there are any.

Welcome and good luck! Smile
