Just adding my two cents worth. I turned to Auction Sniper a few years ago after being surprised by last second bids on several auctions I was winning. Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I had very good luck with AS in the beginning and then lost a couple of close auctions even though the price I set on AS was higher than the winning bid. In retrospect I think my AS set price might have been too low to clear the required bid increment on eBay (see: eBay Bid Increment Policy). So if you’re looking at an item currently bid above $100, the bid that AS tries to place on your behalf needs to be at least $2.50 above the previous high bid or eBay won’t accept it. That was a bit of a rude awakening at the time, but it just means that you won’t always win an auction - especially if you’re only in a position pay a few cents more than the current high bidder. Hmmn, reminds me of the auction scene in the movie Oklahoma.

I currently use AS more as a backup bidding method rather than a primary method. I also use it to bid when an auction I’m very interested in is ending at a time when I’ll be out of town or asleep. When winning a particular auction is important to me, I’ve also learned to set a price in AS that is high enough that I won’t be disappointed if I get outbid. At least for me, knowing where the transition point is between joy and regret seems to be the key. Cheers…
